New Star Trek Movie Coming From D&D Movie Creators

This is what I would go for, Captain Seven of Nine and a crew of mostly new characters. Or use the cast of SNW post-Pike.

That’s not really modern Romantacy, which is generally more sexually explicit, and would be Laurana having to choose between a moody half elf supporting character or some smoothly charming NPC (there isn’t really anyone in the original chronicles that fits the bill).

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Yeah, Gygax often ignored his own rules.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

It was the rules. Gary would have disallowed it because he didn’t like non-human PCs. He wasn’t much interested in world building and settings. Greyhawk was just the generic fantasy setting where his game happened. It wasn’t until Gary stepped back from the day to day that settings that differed...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

It’s been part of the game since 1st edition. Gygax actually discusses what fraction of the population have class levels. I think the figure he came up with was one in ten thousand. Third edition went so far as to add simpler and weaker classes for NPCs.

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

I don’t mind metal and horns, but the ability to punt me across the room with a little finger when I get annoying is a bit off-putting.

Wherever the setting says they come from. The rules deliberately avoid ruling on that stuff.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

What has been realised is you don’t need any mechanics to do that stuff. You can just write it and roleplay it. So 5e has dialled back on the mechanics. Leaving nothing that can “define” a setting.

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

Wyll is just too nice, even the devilish pact and big horns can’t make him sexy. Gale is an unlikable creep, and Jalhera is everyone’s mother.

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

I’m not familiar with the original context, but my cat would ignore the note. I just wish she would clean up the feathers after.

New Star Trek Movie Coming From D&D Movie Creators

It’s boring and humourless, but it’s not embarrassing.

New Star Trek Movie Coming From D&D Movie Creators

I think it manages to get comedy, character beats, action and horror together in one movie, and still remain coherent. But for me, not having Shatner in it is a major plus. Also, the only one with Broccoli.

These two (and 1, 2, 3, 7 and 10) lack the element of allegory that are characteristic of a TV show episode. Insurrection leans heavily into the allegory. I guess 5 is trying to be allegorical, but it’s messaging is very confused. “Cults are bad” I guess.

First Contact edges it out as my personal favourite, but that’s just because I prefer TNG cast. But Insurrection is the most like a movie length episode of the TV show.

New Star Trek Movie Coming From D&D Movie Creators

It’s not just bad, it’s embarrassing. It discredits the entire franchise.

Frankly, they are still a little slow on the uptake. Despite progress, D&D players are still majority male. That’s a bunch of potential D&D players to market too.

Romantasy is certainly where WotC needs to be looking to grow the brand.

I’m not sure copies sold is a good guide. I’m pretty sure there are a pile of soppy romance novels that have outsold all of them!

Your top 5 sci-fi movies (and why)

What is being depicted is apathy. No one cares what they do, because it has no meaning. So they choose to do nothing.

Those are considered genre classics (at least the 2nd two) on a par with LotR. WoT isn’t quite at the same level, but it’s close. Drizzt is Doctor John Thorndike.
