D&D General Forgotten Realms Book preview from NYCC

Right, the culture is "generic"...which means it is the subconscious assumptions fof the creator from Toronto at work. The Blackstaff and the Masked Lrods of Waterdeep? Geewiz gosh golly, they are just trying to do the best they can, donchaknow.

Well, yes, Adventures are like sheet music or more accurately, cookbooks. They are tools, gjides for artists, not a final artistic product. The analogy is very apt: Yamaha, Gender, Kawai...these companies publish sheet music and product lead instructional videos for using their tools.

I mean Great Lakes as in the culture of the cities and people around the North American Grest Lakes. The Moonsea resembles thet geographically, but culturally Waterdeep is very Great Lakes. Ankh-Mlrpork is Greyhawk/Lankhmar, just like Waterdeep. But Lieber, Gygax and Greenwood were working...

Elves share a mythic origin in the depths of time, but there are multiple Elven ethnicities, nations and cultures across Toril. There is Evermeet (Valinor witht he serial numbers filed off, beyond the Western Ocean), but it still isn't as monoculture.

Not even, there were other parts of Returned Abeir in Toril that explicitly had Dragonborn. And insofar as it is a retcon...it is a good one. All the Dragonborn everywhere on the whole planet coming from a monoculture Dragonbornlamd, Land of the Dragonborn, is kind of trash writing. That was...

Or a better analogy: WotC isn't writing music, they are manufacturing the instruments for musicians. Which, having known enough seruous musicians (rock, jazz, and classically trained)...they can be very grognardish about their tools.

That sort of iterative design, across industries, is about improving the experience for users, product design: and yes, WotC has pushed forward on thst front, particularly with 2024. The rules changes were minimal, but targeted after a large amount of user trials. This sort of product design is...

The Sultana is not a Genie...? And who said these Dragonborn were from Tymanther specifically? Tymanther is a Dragonborn space, but it was never even all of the Abseir Dragonborn. Dragonborn are just all over the place.

The Calishman Dragonborn were part of overthrowing the Genies and casting them into the wilderness, not serving them.

Something to ve said for iterative improvement...but yeah, the market leader is juat not positioned to offer wild innovation.

I have an odd history with the FR, starting in with Tyranny of Dragons and the Sword Coast Adventurers Guide...so I love 5E era FR and have a lot of nostalgia for it now...but everything prior to thst is stuff I have dug up in the past decade. I have arrived at being a bit now an eclectic...

Well, in this case the issue at hand is 4E setting material being rolled back to a more AD&D stste in the Old Empires.

    Your Three Desert Island RPGs

Yup, Elder Millennial as they reckon it, but yeah. Interesting that Daggerheart is neck and neck for inclusion with the OG stuff.

Yeah, but that precedent working out the same way again is...unlikely. Extremely unlikely. Specifically to have the end result be as community-friendly a company as Hasbro (fun thought, there).

D&D 5E (2024) How to Make Sammaster the Big Bad of Your D&D Campaign

I mean, it was presented as a schism in Tyranny of Dragons. Apparently all the 5E Campaigns are being presented and suggested as viable modules to integrate with these books.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

It very much fits with how Great Wyrms have been depicted since Fizban's, which became central to the D&D cosmology in the new core books: it is less "this guy had a weird dream" and more "I was talking to my Echo on Krynn and got the 411 on this new approach we can take..." because the whole...

Looking into that a bit, the Blade Kongdoms have almost never received much detail, amd when they do it is very Mediterranean, built on ancient Chessentian ruins and such. It fits?
