D&D General Weave Your Tale in the Forgotten Realms With 8 Epic Subclasses (D&D Beyond Article)

Well, it certainly sounds like they boosted him at least! The 5e MM does mention noble genies as variants of those listed, but with the ability to grant wishes. So it seems noble genies vary in power, which is to be expected.

Yeah, they could. And I certainly wouldn't be upset at all if they did.

I'll have to look at it. Even if there are genie warlords, that still doesn't necessarily mean that genies are integrated into society and every day life the way they are in Zakhara.

D&D General Weave Your Tale in the Forgotten Realms With 8 Epic Subclasses (D&D Beyond Article)

Even in Calimshan I think it would be odd. I could see it in Zakhara were genies are practically worshipped and are a part of every day life and belief. There an oath to genies could rise to the level of being an ideal, but outside of someplace were genies are that integrated into society, I...

Unless they really upped the power level of Noble Genies, they weren't even close to being minor gods. They had some more hit dice and the ability to grant wishes, but that was about it.

I think that change had more to do with the subclass having actual purple dragons in it, which the Purple Dragon Knights didn't have. They had to make a change and they moved to Banneret rather than make a knight that was fairly generic and call if a Purple Dragon Knight.

The Many Faces of Roleplaying: How ‘RPG’ Became Everything and Nothing

For me most tension I feel before sitting down at a game isn't really a part of the term roleplaying game. For me it's about style of play. Is it more Hack 'N Slash, or is it focused on intrigue. What house rules or optional rules are in play. Sometimes I do have an expectation about what a...

D&D General Weave Your Tale in the Forgotten Realms With 8 Epic Subclasses (D&D Beyond Article)

Sure, but it's not Oath of the Elements, which would make sense with elemental gods and princes roaming the multiverse. Oaths are supposed to be about ideals and gods. Ancients, Retribution, Valor, etc. An oath to genies makes seems like it undershoots by quite a bit. Why not an Oath of Mind...

HOLY SYMBOL (VARIES) A Holy Symbol takes one of the forms in the Holy Symbol table and is bejeweled or painted to channel divine magic. A Cleric or Paladin can use a Holy Symbol as a Spellcasting Focus." And the 5.5e DMG when speaking about divine magic calls out Clerics, Paladins, Druids, etc...

What do you mean? It comes up in the 5e PHB in the magic section where it explains what the differences are. In the 5.5e PHB divine magic appears in the cleric class and a few other places. Arcane magic similarly comes up a few places in the text. The 5.5e DMG also speaks about what divine...

D&D General Weave Your Tale in the Forgotten Realms With 8 Epic Subclasses (D&D Beyond Article)

It's being put out for a specific setting, so picking those specific gods makes sense. As you say, all you need to do is swap out the gods and it works just fine. Or you just axe those two gods and have it be Scion of Bane. The article didn't show the specific ability mechanics, but the way...

5e doesn't support it at all. It also does not hinder the DM from making that the case for one of his Paladins. Not hindering =/= support.

100%, unless the DM changes the lore for his personal setting so that it doesn't. By default, though, it matters.

That's not entirely accurate. This is from the 5e Paladin. "Although many paladins are devoted to gods of good, a paladin's power comes as much from a commitment to justice itself as it does from a god." That's a 50/50 split between the oath and the god, so about half comes from the gods.

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

No. The number of encounters has no bearing on whether or not they have allies within range. I don't know what you mean here.

The answer to that first question is maybe/sometimes. Other times fleeing might be the best option.

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

Yeah. If it's a week, many more will have allies within range. Instead of some having allies they can get to in time, it will be a lot of them that have allies that they can get to in time.

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

1e MM says goblins could have slings and spears. 2e goblins say that they use spears, maces, and short swords. 3e goblins have morning stars and javelins in their stat block. 5e goblins? No reason for them not to have access to ranged weapons. Especially since the rules say the DM can arm and...
