D&D General Who put all this Sci-Fi in my soup!?

Sci fis a more modern invention. Fantasy over laps with a lot of cultural tropes and mythology echoing back millenia.

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

Ah gotcha. Rephrase. If you play from low level it takes a long time IRL to get there. If you start their you remember why you dont like getting there. Another side effect is starting magic items. I'll handwave it an let PCs pick stuff that I expect high level PCs to have. +3 weapon...

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

I know how to do it. Its not worth the grind. I can do it but dont want to. I could do it or run 4E but at that point I would want to be paid basically. It takes about an hour of prep per hour of play. If you really want to ace it more like 2. My games 13. Last session is Sunday. Mein gott...

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

It would make it easier but doesn't solve the main problem. Real life time required to get there. Then you get to level 13 and want to stop and probably should have stopped at 10 or 11.

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

We've done tgat in most of our high level games tbh. It still sucks. Those games are often ones shots or fizzle out fast. Doesn't matter what edition. We made it to level 19 once in a monthy haul munchkin 2E game. 5E the extreme upper limit is 13-14. Combat takes to long, encounter...

D&D General Who put all this Sci-Fi in my soup!?

Gotcha. I dont want a lot of that type of stuff in a PHB. 100% fine with it existing though. Sometimes I would want to use it as well.

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

I find 4E monster design best used when applied to 3.5, 5E or SWSE monsters. Considering they rewrote the monster manual I wouldn't be holding it up as an example of good game design. They essentially stretched level 3-10 over 30 levels, stuck everything on a treadmill and tried to hammer...

D&D General Who put all this Sci-Fi in my soup!?

Never seen the Kwalish thing. Didn't know much about barrier peaks for years. Early on we used what we had and no FLGS. 1993-95 roughly. Essentially what we found in mates brothers closet. B2-4, X1, rules cyclopedia, and photocopied book etc.

Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerun - First Impressions

Yeah. Rereading them I'm finding things like Silver Marches are better for adventure parts. Encyclopedia is about right. Gifted a spare copy of Magic of Faerun to a player today. They were mentioning things like the shadow weave and I'm planning on using dead and wild magic zones next game...

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

So some thoughts on recent levels. Kinda seeing bounded accuracy in action. CR 1-3 can hit and hurt level 11-13. Problem is combats are taking a while with 5.5s bucket of hp. Minotaurs of Baphomet rolled well ad were knocking PCs prone and doing 20+ hp. They each have 85 hp. CR 1s were...

Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerun - First Impressions

I think the two new books togather are less than the old 3.0 frcs. Its also very well regarded by fans it seems. It gets mentioned a lot in best FR product ever. SCAGs underwhelming by any metric and full of badly designed subclasses. Haven't got mine yet. Im not expecting them to match...

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

Had a Marilith flunked a save vs command. Caster has a legendary saves boost item it wouldn't have mattered anyway and they had a +1 or 2 from earlier levels. Think I rolled a 6 with advantage.

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

I cant realky write a decent high level encounter. I suspect I may have the most experience running at higher level ECMO3 is an exception for 5e. Its an art form. You need to know the monsters well, maximize terrain and probably extra planar effects. My campaigns ending at 13. Each...

Treat the crit thing as gravy. Check out piercer feat as well its nice on champions. 1d6 is weak but more attacks with advantage each shot is getting close to 20% crit chance. And piercer feat allows rerolls and +2d6 damage. Sharpshooter, crossbow expert, piercer level 4,6 8 20 dex...

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

Class design is quite nice. Books are very nice in use. With the power creep however the "improved" monsters are roughly on par with the 5.0 equivalents. Anything with a bad wisdom save is really 1/3rd of its CR. If youre lucky it gets 1 turn and is stunlocked assuming your PCs know what...

Others bought up Battlemaster? Champions good from level 3. Battlemaster beats it probably. Champion +alert origin feat just saying Level 10 though with vex and elven accuracy a champion is beautiful to see. Tested that one. Battlemaster ranged I want menacing strike probably dont want...
