    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

It would be to 5.5E what Eberron was to 3.5E.

What Non-D&D Would You Use For A Dungeon Focused Campaign

Dragonbane has a lot going for it. While I generally prefer Shadowdark, there are enough elements of Dragonbane I want to steal that I should just cobble together a "Shadowbane" ruleset.

    You're Top-10 Movies/Shows based on Games

I don't even know if I could name 10 off the top of my head. So, the Fallout TV show is amazing. That gets the #1 slot. Legend of Vox Machina is really good, so that is #2. I really like D&D:HAT, so I'll give that #3. I guess Edgerunners is based on a game and it is good, so #4. Oh, because it...

First Episode of The Mighty Nein Available Now on YouTube

I didn't even realize that. I was just going off my personal series rule: if im uncertain, I give it three. If I'm not hooked by then, it's not for me. For books, it's 100 pages. For comics, it's 4 issues. For movies, it's 1/4 of the run time.

First Episode of The Mighty Nein Available Now on YouTube

I think you should give Vox Machina 3 episodes. If after 3 you still bounce off, awesome. But I think the show is some of the best, most dramatic animated western fantasy we have available and is well worth the watch. Yes, there are dick jokes. But there is also real drama.

Modules: Made to Read vs Made to Run?

I have read a few that I would recommend to non gamer fiction writer friends as examples of world building.

    D&D General D&D memes thread discussion…

They can decide to push their luck for greater XP awards, was my point. This is the ultimate expression of player agency, IMO.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

It's weird that no one wants evil orcs but we are going to do a draconic caste system based on scale color.

    D&D General D&D memes thread discussion…

If you count XP, then the players decide when they level up by choosing what they do to get XP.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Sure. I don't think anyone wants a boring setting, except Greyhawk fans.* I do not know. *I kid! Pitchforks down.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I appreciate this perspective. I am generally ambivalent about changes to settings to accommodate new edition rules and vibes. I don't regard the settings to be sacrosanct. But I still think a setting built for a particular ruleset or edition is preferable.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I don't think anyone argued that, and that certainly isn't the subject of the thread.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

This seems like an irrelevant question: there were no dwarf wizards because that is the way it was, regardless of the reasoning. adding dwarf wizards required a change of design intent, and that is how we end up at the point of concern.

First Episode of The Mighty Nein Available Now on YouTube

I don't feel like there is nearly as much watch community as there used to be, so i am inclined to wait and binge.

    D&D General *Hobbits* in a late-80s AD&D product

It is actually an interesting question: are D&D halflings hobbies? If so, which versions?

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I think you are coming at it from a specific point that undervalued how previous editions defined and informed things. You don't think how mechanics and settings interact matters because from your point of view, it kind of did not. But in reality it very much did. I think it continues to...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I admit I only scanned through the section today but I saw a whole lot of humans, and some dwarves and elves, and... not a lot else. Have you played AD&D?

Modules: Made to Read vs Made to Run?

I know everyone is different and to each their own, but the idea that one would write a module they are going to run for their group is wild to me.

Modules: Made to Read vs Made to Run?

I reject the premise that replicating information is inherently bad. If the information is there for two different purposes, then it makes sense to present it twice in 2 formats that best serve those individual purposes. This is doubly true now where page count is not a major issue for most...
