Honestly, I can’t imagine it would be overly time consuming to reroll a die. The initial roll might take a bit, since you need to locate the correct die and determine what modifier to add to the roll. But to then reroll it? The die is already in your hand and you already know the modifier...

Race/Species -> Background -> Class always made the most sense to me because it’s chronological. Start with how you were born, then how you grew up, then what you are now. And yet, every time I create a character, I choose my Class first 🤷🏻‍♂️

The first thing that came to my mind was Knowledge checks (Arcana, History, Nature, and Religion). The DC would increase (or decrease) depending on how obscure the information is.
