    D&D 5E (2024) Real Character Generation in 2024 PHB

I have to admit, when creating new characters in 2024 I really struggle with Species. Previously, I would decide which Class I wanted to play, then chose the Race that gave me complimentary ASIs, and then picked a Background that bridged the gap. Now, I decide which Class I want to play, then...

D&D 5E (2024) Blowgun, is there a use for them?

Thinking about this point, I'm not sure what would be a good Mastery for the Blowgun. Cleave - Doesn't make sense since the needles tend to stick in the target. Unless you somehow managed to blow the needle hard enough to go through the target into the person behind them. Graze - I suppose...

    D&D 5E (2014) Party Rolled a Teleport Mishap Near 200 giants-Plz Help!

According to the 2014 Monster Manual, Stone Giants are "Neutral." Maybe the face of the group can attempt to plead with the Stone Giants to stop the Hill Giants and Ogres from killing them. Or at least, maybe the face can keep everyone occupied and distracted long enough for the Wizard to...

2024 D&D Character Sheets Available to Download

Don't forget cantrips! Sorcerers get the most of any class (6), plus Magic Initiate can give 2 more, and Species might give more (Rock Gnomes get 2). Wizards, of course, are a whole other issue.

D&D 5E (2024) Rogues can now Sneak Attack with all thrown weapons - Tridents, Spears, Handaxes, they all work!

I think people are misreading the term Range on page 214. It doesn't say "Range Weapon," it says "Range weapon" (note the lowercase "w"). This means a weapon with the "Range" property. If the "Range" property also counted as a "Ranged Weapon," I would be able to Sneak Attack with a Greataxe...

    D&D 5E (2024) Ritual spell question

Oh good, it was just me misreading the PHB. Or failing to properly read the PHB, rather. I knew there was something obvious I was missing.

    D&D 5E (2024) Ritual spell question

Help me wrap my head around something. As far as I can tell, the only class that can cast Rituals by default is the Wizard with their Ritual Adept ability. But it specifically says they can cast Ritual spells "if . . . the spell is in your spellbook." The sidebar for copying spells into your...

2024 D&D Character Sheets Available to Download

Based on my list from up-thread, 40 should be good. That would mean shrinking the list height by 2/3 (2 narrower columns of 20 instead of the 1 wide column of 30), which would free up space for something else to be added. I'm just spitballing ideas here, I'm not expecting you to create a new...

2024 D&D Character Sheets Available to Download

I was thinking about this some more a couple days ago and I conceived of a way to double the Cantrips & Prepared Spells list from 30 to 60. Just get rid of the columns for "Casting Time," Range," and the "Required Materiel" diamond (EDIT: and "Notes" Column) and make it two columns side-by-side:

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

Charisma is the obvious choice to me. Warlocks get their power from making a Pact with a higher being. Using their Charisma is how they beg/plead/persuade said higher power to make that Pact.

New Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master's Guide Art and Details Revealed

I swear I watched this video yesterday, but here it is again (posted only an hour and a half ago). And I can’t seem to find the thread from yesterday. Am I losing my mind? EDIT: never mind, I found it: https://www.enworld.org/threads/dmg-previews-up.707010/

    D&D General Dmg previews up

I expressed this same sentiment recently in another thread. I wish the MM was coming out in November and the DMG was coming out in February. Now that we've converted our 2014 characters to 2024 versions, I'm itching to send some updated monsters at the group.

    D&D 5E (2024) Polymorph temp hp remain

I know what the rules say (and what they neglect to say), but in the end doesn't it just come down to the good old Rule of Common Sense? The reason that Wild Shape and Polymorph grant THP is because the target is transforming into a sturdier, hardier creature. When the target reverts back to...

    D&D 5E (2024) Tempest Domain

I have a Tempest Domain Cleric character that I created a few years ago who has yet to see the light of day. I decided I wanted to convert him to a 2024 version, so I drew up a quick conversion from the 2014 version. I decided to post it here to see if the brilliant minds at ENWorld would...

D&D 5E (2024) Temp HP - a hidden nerf to druids and others

The first mention of Wild Shaped Druids getting THP was in UA 8, circa November, 27, 2023. So we've known about it for roughly 10 months now. That would explain why the community as a whole doesn't see this as new information.

    D&D 5E (2014) 4 Doors To Make Better Dungeons

Hopefully Matthew Mercer doesn’t read this post. The Critical Role crew has a hard enough time with plain, run-of-the-mill doors.
