D&D 5E (2014) Dispel Evil and Good cleric spell 5th level in use

2014 DMG p.274 has rules for "Climb Onto a Bigger Creature"

D&D 5E (2024) Can Valor Bard make 2 attacks plus a cantrip at 14th level?

I just noticed the way their Extra Attack and Battle magic features are phrased, and it really looks like you could use your Attack action to make one attack plus cast a one-action cantrip, and then since you just cast a qualifying spell use your bonus action to make another attack. That's...

    D&D 5E (2024) Why doesn't the Tarrasque have Regen?

I vaguely recall a designer saying something to the effect that they didn't need regeneration because they had all the hit points. This of course was likely what they were thinking before the MM came out and people started bringing up the issues. Why haven't they changed it in 2024? Probably...

Creating some form of address courtesy titles for lowest nobility, and question about addressing strangers of unknown rank

I finally have ones I'm happy with. For reference about what I was specifically looking for, for higher nobility you have this: Second person (direct address): (My) Lord/Lady Third person (titles): Lord/Lady My minor nobility is officially nobility, but are not entitled to be referred to or...

D&D 5E (2014) Dispel Evil and Good cleric spell 5th level in use

I understand what you're saying, but... In 5e the lack of a touch attack is part of the intended power level. If you add that requirement it throws off the balance of those spells, making them weaker than intended. A solution to the conceptual problem that maintains balance is to just...

Creating some form of address courtesy titles for lowest nobility, and question about addressing strangers of unknown rank

I was asking a similar question on another forum, but I want to get some different takes, rephrase, and expand it here. Question 1 In my D&D worlds all the children of titled nobles are called Lord/Lady. And all of the children of lords/ladies are nobles, though they cannot be called...

D&D General Disparity in PC levels from same party

Although I appreciate a lot of things that most people would consider old school, different level/XP totals is not one of them. I also don't care for XP loss for literally anything, or permanent irreversible stat drain, etc. That's one thing I think should be untouchable--a PCs stats and XP.

D&D 5E (2014) Dispel Evil and Good cleric spell 5th level in use

The checks for the initial teleport and dispel attempt were good calls, perhaps even leaning a tiny bit on the generous side. The check to touch is completely not how 5e works. The requirement for the spell was that they be within your reach. Had a roll been needed, it would have said so...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you retry a failed skill check? How long?

Usually I say it requires increasing time intervals to reroll the same failed check. So trying to pick a lock might be 1 action, then 1 minute, then 1 hour, 1 day, then you can't try again unless something changes, for example. An alternative that could accomplish something similar could just...

Planescape Which Planescape faction do you most closely identify with?

Believers of the Source, but I'll pass on the foundry-work initiation ritual.

RPG Evolution: What Do You Mean, "Run"?

Fortunately my group appears to be generally wise enough to flee when they need to. I will neither confirm nor deny that past experience has informed their behaviour. ;-) For me it's more about making things run smoother, as well as having a PC-NPC equivalency. I'm just as interested in...

RPG Evolution: What Do You Mean, "Run"?

That's an intriguing idea. Now I'm considering a way I could implement it to fit my style. Initial thought is maybe it can only happen at the top of the round, and either side can do it. So at the top of the round, either side can declare retreat. If they do, initiative switches to side-based...

D&D General Ravenloft: Monsters vs Darklords

Well, I guess it partly depends on how long this campaign is meant to be. We played a multi-year Ravenloft campaign. The big bad we eventually faced was the dark lord of the domain, but we played against all sorts of villains and monsters to get there. That was a single domain adventure...

D&D 5E (2024) Man I hate the organization of the 2024 Monster Manual

I wonder if supporting their published adventure books is actually the usecase this was designed for.

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

There is one thing about how it worked I didn't really care for. It just seemed odd to me that the less of your power you have remaining, the more you look like your sorcery origin. Like the default condition is you are physically transformed and you need magical power reserves to hold that...

D&D General Which Ranger Companion Solution Do You Prefer/Use

My general rule is that pets get their own actions and can attack with them regardless of what's written. Otherwise it's leaning into the idea of the pet as a class feature rather than a character too much for me. So if a feature says you can spend a bonus action to let a pet attack, I treat...

D&D General Advice needed for planar adventure...

If you're running 1e I'd definitely go with the Guide to the Ethereal Plane. It's 2e, so basically everything in it (other than 2e-specific stuff like non-weapon proficiencies that will be irrelevant) should just work without conversion. It includes random encounter tables and other useful bits.

D&D General Advice needed for planar adventure...

So, here's the basics of the Deep Ethereal Plane and traveling. Some of this has already been brought up. 1) Traditionally, the Deep Ethereal Plane connects the Material Plane to the Inner Planes and demiplanes. It is not connected to the Outer Planes. The Astral Plane is what connects the...

D&D General Advice needed for planar adventure...

We'll need to know which edition you are planning on basing the cosmology on to give good answers. Your initial post doesn't really conform to any edition.

D&D General Lego Sandbox vs Open Sandbox (and other sandbox discussion)

I actually like the slice of life stuff interspersed with all sorts of dangers and adventures. It makes it feel like you are part of the setting. We do everything from epic heroic quests, to gold-motivated dungeon crawls, but we also might acquire a house/ship/base and decorate it, and enjoy...
