There was a GURPS Alpha Centauri back in the day, so why not?

SWADE is great for “shotgun ‘thulu” where you are taking on loads of cultists. It would be my system of choice for Masks of Nyarlathotep. But for horror closer to CoC standards with academics and careful investigation it would then probably be a GURPS implementation for me.

This concept resonates with me. I like to play a variety of games across genre and theme. I would categorise things like sci-fi versus fantasy as genre, while heist versus hex crawl would fit into the theme. I also think in terms of the style of game - action adventure versus gritty for example...

I’m just coming to the climax of a SWADE game which has been running a year, and a as a player in another campaign which has been running for about two years. Both have been smooth experiences. YMMV

My parents had this on a chopping board, hung up in our kitchen when I was young - before I ever got into role playing. Which is interesting because they aren’t particularly fantasy fans. My first exposure to the hobbit was an audio adaption which I think was on the radio.

Dragon Warriors is one of my favourite old school RPGs, I played it back when it first came out and probably played it as much as BECMI D&D. The out-of-combat stuff is a little thin by modern standards but the game is still solid. I wouldn’t really describe it as epic or high fantasy...

We have two groups, a weekly one of GM+3 and a monthly one of GM+5. For the monthly one we will only play one-down, and since it is so infrequent we would negotiate a different weekend in the month to make that happen. For the weekly game we try to only role-play with everyone there...

I have two groups, with a large overlap of members. One plays weekly on a mid-week evening, the other plays monthly on a weekend day-evening slot. Works out as an average of weekly as the mid-week session includes board gaming too.

The new option doesn’t quite capture it, but it’s close enough. We played plenty 5e but got tired of it. Last D&D-ish campaign we played (about a year ago) was Level Up. One of our occasional GMs fancies trying 5:24 next, which should start in a month or two when I complete my Savage Worlds...

The Secret Level episode on D&D is fantastic, and the Critical Role animation is also great fun to watch. I think an animated streaming series is the natural home for a series based on D&D IPs - the costs must surely be less than a feature film with the live action and marketing costs that entails.

Remasters of the original computer games have also been released so there is a wave of fan interest to ride as well. Excellent timing from the publisher.
