    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make High Level 5E Work.For You +

Oh, for sure. I'm working on the bones of a high-level game right now. The core assumption is that high-level characters are primarily focused on extraplanar concerns, and that hundreds of Prime worlds feed into the planes. So a Tier 4 character is literally a one-in-a-million occurrence, but...

    Does Anyone Care? (Cosmere RPG)

Sure. And the game itself isn't intended to be combat-balanced like a 5e, so it's easier to have a Misting like Breeze control a scene even when there's a Mistborn present. I'd also assume they'd want to make Mistborn accessible at low-level (like Vin), so I'm thinking there's a key talent...

    D&D 5E (2014) How To Make High Level 5E Work.For You +

Total tangent, but you really shouldn't have many prisons in a high-level game. By that point, raise dead and resurrect are common enough that high-level "prisoners" are just killed and then have their remains stored in somewhere secure if they're needed. Or, you're just focusing on the...

    D&D General A Setting! A Setting!

Just doing a quick browse. Random thought that scratches the symmetry-loving parts of my brain; with 6 boroughs, why not 6 elemental rifts? Light/dark, or life/death, or wood/metal?

    Does Anyone Care? (Cosmere RPG)

Yep, just picked this up today at the local game store as an (expensive!) early Christmas present to myself. Still going over the core rulebook, but pretty impressive. Does the number one thing a licensed RPG needs to do, which is give a fan all the tools needed to make up that fanfic...

GMs: What is your prep to play ratio?

Maybe this is my own biases showing, but I feel like there's a correlation between "using modules" and "greater prep time". I think there's a tendency that if you're not using modules, you're not instead spending tons of hours making your own homebrewed adventure, you're simply more willing to...

GMs: What is your prep to play ratio?

Generally less than 20 minutes for a 3-4 hour session, outside of OSR style games where the playstyle demands that I do a bit of initial "dungeon" creation. But even for those, under an hour. A little more if you count "brainstorming" time thinking about the game in the car/taking a...

    Matt Colville's Community

For sure. I have lots of people on ignore. I don't have any moral judgment about any of them as people, I've simply come to terms that seeing their posts doesn't improve my forum-reading experience.

The ACKS II kickstarter raised 333K in 2023, and I believe most of the community had migrated to Discord. Which makes sense considering the overall controversy around the game’s creator.

Conversation and discussion are not synonyms. Being informed of something you have ignorance of is not a discussion. Relaying anecdotes back and forth is not a discussion. “Discussion” has connotations of formality and seriousness that “conversation” lacks. What we are having here is a...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

The only downside to my rapidly expanding ignore list is that a lot of the veiled complaints here are completely lost to me.

What TTRPGs Excel At Not Having Combat?

“I want a system that doesn’t have combat” and “this system does have combat but you can ignore it” are two different things.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I didn't ignore people for a very long time; but over the last few months, I decided to try out ignoring a pretty large swathe of people (over a dozen) to see if it made browsing ENWorld more pleasurable. Turns out, it works great!

D&D General Has Tiny Hut actually affected your game? Or has it otherwise mattered?

My personal take is that LTH is quite useful and powerful, I simply don't see that as a problem. It's certainly affected our games, but player-facing options should affect gameplay; that's the point of having choices!

    Contemporary Simulationist TTRPGs [+]

To my mind, if a game is still being republished/revised into new editions and corebooks, it's still relevant in terms of showing interest of its features. Revision X of a 40 year old sim-type game that's popular shows that sim elements are still relevant to people. If we're not seeing...
