D&D 5E (2024) One D&D gets gnomes close to perfect

Them eating Second Breakfast? ;) Actually, I'm not sure. But what they came up with was an abomination. Hell, no halfling would ever be born as there is no way in hell that head is coming out between those tiny hips.

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D gets gnomes close to perfect

Haha. I did add it in mine though I called them Bobble-headed, needle-foot halflings who would fall over if left standing.

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D gets gnomes close to perfect

If they make halflings lose the giant head-tiny footedness, I'll be first in line for 1D&D (only partially a joke).

How Relevant is Gencon (or Any Con)?

To the average gamer? It's not. It's completely irrelevant in this age of Online Play for your average RPG player (and thus, really, D&D player). I've been playing since 1981 and never felt the sting of never going to Gencon. Now to RPG producers, that may be an entirely different story.

Traveller Is 45 Years Old Today!

I remember my older brother bringing home the box with the three black books in it and running adventures for me because he knew how much I like Dungeons & Dragons AND Sci-fi. Loved those games back in 1981 in the Jewel Subsector with my Desert Dwelling Human with the nictitating membrane...

[VTT] What size screen do you use?

I was shopping for a laptop and got one. It's not for gaming or anything. Mostly for productivity and work. (16 inch screen). But I got to thinking: how would it work for playing in VTTs (Fantasy Grounds and Foundry, specifically)? I'd run games using my desktop. But for sitting in my recliner...

Too Much Effort to Make New Characters?

In the majority of the groups I've participated in, they seem to follow the New Player table rule in the DMG when introducing dead-character replacements as well which is: When a new player joins the group, allow the new player to create a character of a level equal to the lowest-level member of...

Too Much Effort to Make New Characters?

Because you don't like something does not automatically make it a "poor system" unless the statement is a "poor system to match my style of play."

Too Much Effort to Make New Characters?

Yes. Easily overcome. That's you don't agree has no impact on my statement and, in fact, highlights the fact that there are lots of different ways to play the games we play. And too much depends on the game being played and the table rules for your statement to have much weight. Some games...

Too Much Effort to Make New Characters?

This is not a dig at you, Kor. You just happened to say it and it dinged in my mind... There are LOTS of consequences for actions besides death. Death, really, is a minor one easily overcome by just making another character and, oftentimes, has nothing to do with the playing skill or character...

Too Much Effort to Make New Characters?

This is my feeling as well. Statements like: "I'd go find a group that actually wants to play" or some such to the effect that the players aren't really playing if they're not wanting to make new characters is just nasty One True Way-ism to me. They obviously don't want to play the way you...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Quality?

Genetics runs havoc through lots of people's health status. We call it having "poor protoplasm" which is short hand for "their genetics makes them predisposed to... [name your disease]." Meanwhile the dude who smokes, lives on sugar, never exercises, etc., etc. who somehow remains healthy has...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Quality?

Sorry. Was gone for the week. My point was just that people can't replicate his results. Heck, universities can't replicate his results. And that just about anything taken to extremes can be quite deadly. I really do hate that film. He goes in all high and mighty but tends to use pictures...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Quality?

Here's the thing about that. Spurlock's Super Size Me has be debunked multiple times and shown to be full of crap. Here's just one example: No one has been able to replicate Spurlock's results. Ever. Even basic math disputes the claim that his McDiet consisted of 5,000 calories a day. And...

D&D General What if Critical Role had stuck with Pathfinder? Or 4E?

Wasn't 5e already selling gangbusters before CR even started? If so, CR helped make D&D more popular and, in return, D&D helped make CR more popular. It's a half synergistic/ half symbiotic relationship. Pathfinder, however, didn't have that going for it in 2015. It was already "on the way out"...

D&D 5E (2014) House Rule Idea: Exploding Weapon Dice

I primarily play Savage Worlds that has exploding dice. As others have said, it will add time during those turns where it's applied. But it's not applied that much and, therefore, doesn't add a lot to the player's turns in terms of time. And they can be exciting. Since, as I stated I play SW...
