D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Expert Classes Playtest Document Is Live

Isn't the point of literally every class that isn't the fighter to be better than the fighter? That's not a very high bar.

D&D 5E (2014) Is there a spell to control a volcano so that it is permanently active?

Years ago, when my then-5yo asked me what's the worst kind of a villain, my response was "the kind that helps people out," and I stand by this definition. Your description here is a great example.of how and why that definition fits.

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Expert Classes Playtest Document Is Live

Chaosium/Nocturnal Press has a book in which the ranger loses the Spellcasting trait and gets proficiency in Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, and Wisdom saving throws, a second extra attack at 11th level, and Expertise at 3rd, 6th, 9th, and 12th level. This is the Ranger I've used in my games...

D&D 5E (2014) My guesses for what will be in the Book of Many Things

You don't think they could handle it all in a 64 page hardcover? But honestly, Madness at Gardmore Abbey was such an awesome adventure I'll be sad if they don't riff on it somehow. And I'm both sure I'm not alone in that opinion and sure that WotC knows that.

D&D 5E (2014) Where are the heirs to the 32 page adventure format?

Weird. I was a volunteer at the Goodman booth at Gen Con this year, and the 5th Edition Fantasy adventures were both present and steady sellers. There's also stuff like this, which is intended as space-filler along the same lines: Offbeat Encounters - Dungeon Masters Guild | Dungeon Masters Guild

    D&D 5E (2024) (+)One Big Thing I Would Change

I think fiddling with the six abilities would cause more uproar than most other changes. But for the record, DCC ditched both Charisma and Wisdom and replaced them with Personality.

    D&D 5E (2024) (+)One Big Thing I Would Change

A lot of what people are suggesting can be accomplished by just playing Dungeon Crawl Classics. But in keeping with actually playing 5e, the big change I would like is ditching damage-dealing cantrips. Magicians being able to do magical stuff without using spell slots is fine with me - it...

    D&D 5E (2024) New equipment list

I'm another one who would remove the existing healing potion from the general store list, so I'm not really on board with adding more magic items to it. I'd also be interested in seeing LESS specificity in weapons. I miss the old Normal Sword - whatever the aesthetic design, a culture's primary...

D&D General So, You Like The D&D Cartoon Huh? Pre-order Poseable Figures!

One of the DVD sets caught a bunch of flack years ago because evidently there was a rights issue with the music in The Dragon's Graveyard so they used a different soundtrack. I never actually saw/heard it, but a bunch of people were upset. So when I bought a DVD set, I made sure to get the one...

D&D General So, You Like The D&D Cartoon Huh? Pre-order Poseable Figures!

You make a good point regarding streaming. I have the DVD box set - the good one, that has the original music in The Dragon's Graveyard instead of the re-recorded substitute - but it would be cool if they had them all streaming. After all, not everyone is as lucky as me 😁.

    D&D 5E (2014) 2-year campaign coming to a close, closing thoughts

In 30 ish years of gaming I've never had a campaign go from 1-20. I think the longest went from 1 to 10 or 12 (it was a 2e game, so different characters were different levels at the end). I've played in high level campaigns, but the characters were created as high level characters and not...

D&D General How many books/authors of the original AD&D Bibliography have you read? Do you feel you see D&D differently than people who have not read any?

I've read works by 13 of the authors on that list, and like others here I would add a few more influences to it: Raymond Feist's Riftwar, Melanie Rawn's Dragon Prince and Dragon star series, Lloyd Alexander, the Lords of Dûs series by Lawrence Watt Evans, Robert Asprin's Myth series, and more...

Dear crowdfunding publishers: Chill out with the content stretch goals

Thank you for answering! What you just laid out is pretty much how I had interpreted what you were saying, and I appreciate you clarifying/confirming as much. It's a bummer, but good advice.

Dear crowdfunding publishers: Chill out with the content stretch goals

So if you don't mind answering a logistical question, how does that work? Let's say that as a stretch goal we offer a custom miniature (or a tarot deck or whatever). We wrote the book, we work with the printer, we can handle shipping etc, but we have to outsource physically creating the...

Dear crowdfunding publishers: Chill out with the content stretch goals

The book was published somewhere around 2013; I'm not sure when the campaign you describe took place. The book was co-written with Shanna Germain; while I don't think I've ever backed a campaign by Cook himself, I've backed a few by her. It's all MCG, of course, but for all I liked in Ptolus...

Dear crowdfunding publishers: Chill out with the content stretch goals

Also, isn't opting out of stretch goals accomplished by just waiting for the retail version of the product anyway? It's rare, in my experience, for the crowdfunded version of a product to be lower in price than the production version. Unless of course you count additional content (from stretch...

Dear crowdfunding publishers: Chill out with the content stretch goals

I am setting up to launch my first Kickstarter campaign in a few months, having backed more than 70 in the past few years, and I mostly agree with your points. Companies like Monte Cook and Goodman are the exception when it comes to fulfilling with stretch goals. The book/game module we will...
