I love Spaceballs. I want to think this could be great... depends on how willing they are to be daring and whether they will do the work to be creative and witty (ie not just simple reversal parody or "isn't this funny?" kind of stuff). Mawg tails and Schwartzs crossed!

Solos are better when built/run as having multiple actions per round, which avoids the action economy issue. This can also avoid the "one save and be done" concern either by allowing additional saves on each of these turns or having other immunities or abilities to automagically end effects.

The Troubleshooters may work for you, running adventures similar to the Tintin graphic novels. The base campaign world has some superscience influences, but those are easy enough to strip out if not desired and can still run very cool adventures in a "mundane" world.
