D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

Look I am not pushing back against the general idea. I am just pushing back that anyone should play a game like D&D in a manner that is not fun. The most important tool in an RPG is your imagination and "tools" can't take that away from you. Just have fun.

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

I'm going to push back on this a bit. IMO, if a "best" strategy is not fun, then it is not the best strategy!

Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerun - First Impressions

I am not a forgotten realms person and hadn't planned on getting these books (leaning to getting the Adventures book), but I might buy them just to help them be successful so they proceed to give the same treatment to other settings.

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

The monster gets a +5 to all saves until its next turn when all if its legendary actions regen. So in effect it can get a constant +5 bonus to saves and just have 2 legendary actions. It is a simple solution, but I am not sure it is the best.

What is the SW:SE condition track?

D&D General WotC is at it again

From what I hear (on this very thread) publishes have a separate license with WotC when they put things on DnD Beyond. This forum license has nothing to do with what a publisher puts on DnDB

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

I don't even need translation if it better than what I am doing now. I just have my doubts a 6e would be when none of the other innovative games out there now have achieved that. I do hold out some hope for Odyssey though (not sure when mike plans to release it though).

D&D General Forgotten Realms Books Tables of Contents

Sorry your are not happy, but I fail to understand how this book could kill your campaign. Can you clarify? I mean, at worst case scenario you could simply not buy this book or ignore the parts you don't like correct?

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

I'm the same, but that is precisely what leads me to sticking with the system I know. It is easier for me to tell stories with a system I am familiar with and able to add-lib as needed.

D&D General Forgotten Realms Books Tables of Contents

Nope. I was simply stating the reality that people have different opinions and perspectives on what is trash and what is treasure. I guess I should clarify I don't give a personal hoot about FR a I don't use that setting. Rather odd that you would jump to insults though.

D&D 5E (2024) How to Make Sammaster the Big Bad of Your D&D Campaign

I note this preview is of his lich form. I wonder if he will also get a unique dracolich form or if it just says to use the one in the MM.

D&D 5E (2024) How to Make Sammaster the Big Bad of Your D&D Campaign

Interesting article on Beyond on a FR villian in the new book: How to Make Sammaster the Big Bad of Your D&D Campaign I am not sure, but I imagine a lot of this additional content, not just a preview?

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

@Reynard, question: Could this theoretical innovative version still be 5e or 5e compatible in your opinion? I think there is a lot of room to still innovate with 5e (for example our home game). That is what I would like to seem more than innovation for the sake of innovation. Now, would I look...

D&D General Forgotten Realms Books Tables of Contents

These look interesting. I wasn't sure about getting these books, but recent previews and discussion have me at least leaning to getting the adventure book.

D&D General Forgotten Realms: Real World Gods Still Present in the Old Empires

I actually think that is the opposite of the truth. Planescape is more similar to the "default" D&D setting. It should therefore be more generic or at least accommodating. FR is a specific setting and can lean into is particular unique items.

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

Why do you assume they wouldn't call it 6e?

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

It of course depends. Our customized version of D&D is the ideal game for us and the most fun we have had playing D&D ever. Now if the game changed to be more like our game, then we might "adopt" it. However, if it would make the game more difficult to play the way we want, then no we would not...
