    My "Savage" Experience

I'm curious how much longer to let it go? How long should it take for players to understand how Savage Worlds works? How long to stick with Deadlands: Lost Colony when the players don't like (or don't understand) the sci-fi? (Like, "that's not how space travel would work" or "that's not the...

D&D General 5e D&D to OSR pipeline or circle?

It's a "living conversation" I'm having with myself. Right now I'm feeling frustrated that there's a hesitancy in the group to learn system mastery, so I'm reluctant to deviate too far from D&D. What I think I'm missing in my life is a feeling of creativity and world building. I've been running...

D&D General 5e D&D to OSR pipeline or circle?

I want the d20 familiarity. This is for players who haven't thought about the game for a week, won't look at rulebooks when they aren't sitting down to play, etc. I don't want to try to teach them a new system (after beating my head against a wall to get them to understand D&D 4E, Dragonbane...

D&D General 5e D&D to OSR pipeline or circle?

I haven't looked at it too much. The "1 hp" wizard kinda scared me off.

D&D General 5e D&D to OSR pipeline or circle?

Over the holidays, I've been giving it consideration of taking my group back to 5e, or switching to a new 5e variant (2024, ToV, or Level Up), or else going to OSR. I can't decide at all what my interest is. I don't want it MORE complex than 5e 2014 (which probably takes out 2024, ToV, and...

    Christmas swag!

I got less gaming-related stuff this year than in previous years. Mostly just tangentally related to gaming. A poker-chip case for storing Savage Worlds Bennies A D&D-themed cookbook and cocktail book A t-shirt that has an arrow indicating "I'm with Flanking Bonus" A drinking card game to play...

    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

I remember trying WFRP 3e back in the day, but my players weren't interested at that time. Wonder if it's still out there to get?

    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

Thanks. I don't want to feel like I am stagnant in any of my hobbies. I hope that you enjoy reading the thread and can take something away from it. For us, that's the million-dollar question. Player A also happens to be my wife, so it would be awesome if we could find a system we both really...

    My "Savage" Experience

Okay, I vaguely remembered seeing that. And did I remember seeing that size impacts chances of hitting? Like if we have a Size 1 creature fighting a Size 0 creature, it's -1 to hit the Size 0 creature while the Size 0 creature is +1 to hit it? Or is that only if we go to the next size category...

    My "Savage" Experience

Here's my issue with bennies. My group isn't the most proactive. They tend to argue, plan, and discuss actions a lot. I want to give bennies when they do something in character, fun, action-oriented, risky, etc. Not just argue about plans out of character. I give them bennies when they earn...

    My "Savage" Experience

That explains the missing +1. Thanks! To be fair, I don't remember seeing that explicitly stated in the rules when it's explaining how to compute Toughness. There are these little things about SW that I'm having a hard time figuring out.

    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

I mean, if I were going to run anything from WFRPG, I would use Dragonbane. If my group wanted to continue with Dragonbane and preferred something with a little more intrigue and less combat than Paths of Glory, I would've gone with The Enemy Within Campaign, converted to Dragonbane. The...

And she spent her benny well. After her Toughness and the Soak roll, she ended up taking only one Wound. It could've been MUCH worse.

    My "Savage" Experience

In the specific case from last night's battle, I'm unsure of how it's calculated. Vigor is d8 (which accounts for 6 Toughness) and Armor is +3 (which should get us to 9). The armor is just for the torso, so I guess a called shot could avoid 3 points.

    My "Savage" Experience

Yes. Everyone gets very excited about it when it happens. Except when a mook did 33 points to a PC during the fight. I'm just looking up a typical weapon. It's 2d6+1 damage. It has an AP 1. So that should be an average result of 8 against a Toughness 9 (considering the AP 1). So as long as...

    My "Savage" Experience

Yeah, I don't know either. My group seems to be fairly combat-centric. Some encounters are a breeze and some are frustratingly long - not necessarily deadly, just not interesting with lots of misses/failure to damage. The PCs moved toward the enemies and attempted diplomacy. They failed, so...

    My "Savage" Experience

I did outfit the group with new weapons before the encounter. They went from pistols to machine guns. I was hoping it would be enough. I think I'll need to take the Toughness down next time. Our previous session had a battle with 6 mooks with the same Toughness as this battle (10). They were...

    My "Savage" Experience

I demonstrated how gang-up worked with the enemies. Because the party was so badly outnumbered, they couldn't use that rule. They did use the increased RoF for their weapons, but it didn't help with the damage. Players would hit with 3 shots, none of them getting past Toughness. Basically, it...

    My "Savage" Experience

Last night's session included a combat with 32 enemies, 5 NPCs, and my 5 players. To streamline it, I cut half the enemies - they were mounts and I just used them for speed and didn't track their wounds or let them attack. Still, the combat took 1.5 hours, and it felt like it dragged on. The...

Looking Back on 2024 – Looking Forward to 2025

I realized my first post in this thread was just about how I wasn't looking forward to anything coming out in 2025. This will add things to look back on from 2024. Completed running my 4e campaign. It was a struggle, but we had a satisfying ending for the players instead of abandoning it...
