Looking Back on 2024 – Looking Forward to 2025

I know in the past I've complained about my characters being ineffective, but in my last Pathfinder game, my character was finally able to contribute using his class abilities.

Looking Back on 2024 – Looking Forward to 2025

Thanks for the tip. I do love painting minis - one of the few RPG related hobbies that brings me actual peace and joy. And C'mon makes some great minis.

Looking Back on 2024 – Looking Forward to 2025

I realize these aren't bad, but it does mean that it limits my engagement with the hobby and socialization with groups online. For example, I can't discuss any of the "new hotness" with folks on here. I'm having a mess trying to mix and match 2014, Level Up, and 3rd party. I'd like to stick...

Looking Back on 2024 – Looking Forward to 2025

Let's see... I'm not playing D&D currently. I'm out of the loop regarding the 2024 revision. That's okay, but it means I'm disconnected from the biggest game in the world with the most coverage and largest community. On here, I don't even have much to talk about. So I'm feeling disconnected...

    Tell your overdue Kickstarter story

Luckily I've had only a few KS RPGs that were delayed, and I've gotten them all within a few months of the time estimated. The disappointments I've had have been boardgames with a lot of miniatures. It looks like 2-3 of those won't fulfill. All from the same company.

D&D 5E (2014) Setting up a Dungeons and Dragons Club at my Local Library

It really depends on the community. I'm in the Bible Belt, so I would avoid anything with demons, devils, or the Hells. For me, if I ran Strahd, I'd really glance over certain subplots (

D&D 5E (2014) Setting up a Dungeons and Dragons Club at my Local Library

Also a librarian here. First, thanks for offering to run games for the community and promoting your library as an important hub of engagement for your area. Trust me when I say libraries need support now more than ever. So I've been involved in a variety of D&D programs at libraries. Many have...

    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

I might be confused, but I am recalling that it's a very crunchy system with a lot of customization. (I think I've seen it compared to GURPS.) If that's the case, I don't think these players have the interest to engage with mechanics like that.

    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

I have a few dungeon crawler boardgames: Descent, Hero quest, Dungeon Universalis, the lightweight version of Gloomhaven, Massive Darkness, D&D Adventure System (Ravenloft et al), Altar Quest. She doesn't seem to be interested in them and will only occasionally play Hero Quest if I ask nicely...

    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

She has just sort of recently (past 5 years) gotten into video game RPGs: Zelda, Skyrim, Baldurs Gate, etc. She has asked me why TTRPGs can't be more like them - save points, fast travel, endless inventory, quick healing potions everywhere, frequent loot drops, etc. I try to explain that a...

    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

I get that. I had a group of 7 players at one point, and doing card based initiative (for Savage Worlds) was an issue. We later went down to 3 players, so it wasn't much of a problem at that point. There might be a way to house rule an initiative system from a BRP system like Cthulhu (since...

    My "Savage" Experience

Come to think of it, one of the characters does have a d4 in the skill. Hope it's enough.

    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

The players have different ideas of what they like. Referencing the OP... Player C likes a variety of challenges. Loss (or even a character death) isn't the end of the world. It takes the game in interesting, new directions. She can try out new builds. (This is really my favorite way of...

    My "Savage" Experience

Yeah. The character who died still had a Bennie remaining to soak. Or I was going to offer "Blaze of glory" or rolling on the chart. However, the player just had enough and wanted the character to die. Of course, the party has no one who can heal, because that's "boring" - so there is a good...

    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

Yeah. So I have a group of players who don't think about the game until they sit down to play it, spend 30 minutes hanging out, then don't care when the spotlight isn't on their characters. A system that asks little (outside the game or during the game) is ideal. We had three players. Two of...

    My "Savage" Experience

Yeah. It's a puzzle. She's done okay with Powered by the Apocalypse, D&D 5e and 4e, and Dragonbane. Savage Worlds just seems to be hitting a wall.

    My "Savage" Experience

We had the second session last night. Here were the highlights/low points (depending on your perspective): "I still don't understand how the Wild Die works. Why can't I add it to my roll? Why do I get to roll my multiple damage dice? Okay, I'm never going to understand this - just tell me what...

    Did the nerds win?

Well, we've seen the damage that can happen when corporate interests take over what used to be niche hobbies. You get things like Sony's Spiderman Universe that can't include Spiderman. You get rushed animation films like "War of the Rohirrim" just to hang on to the film rights to something that...
