Never undervalue stealth. With two thieves in the party, it may be helpful to tweak a tank character for stealth instead of maximizing AC. Of course, if the cleric doesn't also do so the benefit may be lost.

How about this: Players have a responsibility to contribute their class abilities toward the success of the group, not just the individuals. However, players do not have a responsibility to allow other players to demand they use those abilities in the way the other player wishes.

Which is why, worst comes to worst, you have to make that Lair action on Init 20 really count. Whatever the party's go-to for "alpha strike" is - do your best to hinder that for one round.

I don't think we can wait for WotC to get on that. We're going to need one of ENWorld's spreadsheet masters to rules-fu this problem into unconsciousness.

It does sound like heat metal is more powerful in the hands of NPCs than PCs. However - didn't WotC build these monsters, and determine their CRs, by what their damage output was? It seems that a wizard with fireball is a different CR than a wizard of the same level with dispel magic. So...
