I think the thought was that it was the successor to the AD&D line, and since the the need to contrast it to the by then moribund D&D (BECMI/Cyclopedia) line no longer existed, they dropped the Advanced adjective.

The one good argument I heard for this is that artists would check secular sources on what a phylactery should look like and would get references to tefillin, so instead of an amulet they'd draw them as little leather boxes with straps.

When they revisit the Artificer, I hope they shift away from the pseudo-steampunk stuff and more toward object oriented casting being their core identity. This is where rune magic should sit, and animistic fetish crafting, or incarnum style objects made of pure magic.

Between the conjurations and the example art, they seem to be leaning in to a stage magician like schtick for the Illusionist.

I had similar thoughts along these lines. Digging in to the adventures of some of the old non-TSR gaming magazines. The rights issues may be a bit tangled in some cases though.

Yeah, it's sort of a twisted path. When Half-Giants were adapted for 3e they were given psionics because Darksun, so it was natural to plop them in Sarlona. When Darksun was revised Half-Giants were deemed Goliaths. Now, Goliaths are mini-versions of the standard giants who live in Xen'drik. o_O...

I'd like a return to Eberron in the slipcase format. Book one would be a mechanical tune-up for things like dragonmarks, species options, and the Artificer; maybe a revisit to Stormreach to bring in the history of the new mini-giant Goliaths. Book two would be a Eberron monster guide. Book three...

That's a side effect of 4e's alignment system. Law is ++Good and Chaos is ++Ungood.

The example they gave was adding Repelling Blast to Ray of Frost so that you could knock back and slow an opponent at the same time.

I was pleasantly surprised that damage cantrip boosting invocations can be applied to more than Eldritch Blast. I hope chain familiar options will continue to be expanded in the Everything books. Some more Fey and Celestials would be nice. I'd really like to see the return of the Eyeball...

I played an Oath of the Ancients Forest Gnome Paladin. Seemed completely on brand to me. 🤷

Only a slight loosening on the uniformity of appearance, but they all still look like variations on a sports mascot devil. I like the mechanics of the Cthonic legacy.

I think they'll spread the other Wizard subs over at least two sources books. It's the class they've had the hardest time coming up with subclasses for.
