What rpg system would you use for a 60+ session fantasy campaign?

Left to my preferences, I run two sessions a week, on the same day... 3-4 hours, dinner, 3-4 hours. if counting it that way, I got to 60 sessions on 2 different editions of L5R. (2nd and 3rd.) And on Dark Heresy 1e.

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

L5R had a pretty clear intent, and there was more intent in it to those three playstyles than many give credit for. The thing is, one has to be familiar with what its intent to emulate is to see it. It was intended for the kind of action in Japanese "Pillow Books" - a romanticized samurai story...

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

Yeah, Hero had 3 expendables in 1981... Body, Stun, End. What it lacked by default was penalties for less than all of any one of them gone. 1987 we get WEG's Star Wars, with damage steps instead of HP, and resistance rolls to determine which level. Shadowrun also has a similar (but more...

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

History, when I took my bachelor's in it, defined modern as "1965 to present" - that was in 1993 to 1996. We're definitely post-modern on so many areas...

What rpg system would you use for a 60+ session fantasy campaign?

60 sessions? I generally get 40-49 per year. 1⅓ years, so 16 months. Personally, I can only think of one I have tolerated that long in a single run: Pendragon. The 9 months crowd (about 30-32 sessions) adds WFRP 1e, WEG Star Wars, FFG Star Wars and Prime Directive 1e... And Classic and...

Iconic Keep on the Borderlands image an homage to Sleeping Beauty?

Most palaces have turrets and gatehouses. They're there because they're always there... as the early palaces were inside fortifications. And it's always good to keep the "rabble" at beyond arms reach. Take, for example, the current Palace of the Prince of Monaco. It has multiple square towers...

Traveller: the iconic science fiction roleplaying game

Yeah. And you'll find me in the credits as a lead playtester. It's decent. If I had a group insisting on d20 system, I'd use it. I do use the ship and vehicle design systems.

Does the Death Curve Beat the Death Spiral?

When letting them pursue it makes your suvival dubious. It's as true IRL as in-game. There's a fine line between letting someone run with a bad idea and endorsing said bad idea, but its a fairly important line

    Best RPG for Arabian adventures

Not familiar with that work. If one likes older editions of L5R, there's Legend of the Burning Sands, which is L5R 3rd revised in a pseudo Arabian setting. On DTRPG My favorite is harder to find: Arabian Sea Tales. On DTRPG. Fairly light all rolls supposed to be player facing.

Iconic Keep on the Borderlands image an homage to Sleeping Beauty?

Not fake - it was a palace, not a fortress. And as a palace it was serving the needs of HM Ludwig II. Until he was deposed. It was intended to be a visual statement of power, not a fortified residence.

Traveller: the iconic science fiction roleplaying game

A lot more has to do with incompatible editions, with people conflating "Can be converted on the fly" with "is usable unmodified," vicious fan hate of other editions than their favorite. I'm saying this as someone on staff at what was Marc Miller's boards between 2005 to present. If you think...

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

Same. For 2nd or 3rd (and presumably 4th, tho' I skipped 4th other than core; I was happy enough with 3) , it's a great adjunct. It's less useful with 5th, due to different assumptions, but still, PC's it's just use their rings as is for their CW ratings. I never got much into the card game...

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

I grabbed 3 of RightKnightToFight's Daggerheart supps... from HeartOfDaggers.com. PWYW on 2 of them. Good Stuff. (should be, he's one of the design team for DH.)

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

Not as "force points"... but only as moments of being inspired by the force.

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

Almost no one considers XP, a player side resource, as a metacurrency, either... but it is. It's an abstraction into metacurrency. More clearly so in games like Storyteller System, Hero, or GURPS... the latter two being "experience is just more points to spend…" ... as they have multiple ways to...

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

I had a couple larger fights, too small for the battle system, too big for TOTM, in 3rd. a few of those I solved by using the Clan War minis game rules.

Poll: VTT Users - Do you prefer self-hosted or cloud-based VTTs?

Maybe. The thing is, the VTT may need to be reinstalled at some point, and if you can't authenticate your copy... I'll note that the authorization for Foundary is at install. The other nicety of self-hosting? I can set up a lan if I want.
