    D&D 5E (2014) Roles of a ship, what Cr?

Depends. If you are in Eberron then the captain of a ship would generally be a level 3 NPC. If you are in the Forgotten Realms the captain of a ship would be a level 20 NPC.

    D&D 5E (2014) Favorite 3rd Party Campaign

Am currently really enjoying Empire of the Ghouls.

D&D General Stranger Things Image of a D&D Game

I made my own in the 80's. Got a big flat piece of wood and painted it with glossy white paint. Then I scored in the one inch squares with a craft knife and a large ruler.

    D&D 5E (2014) House Rule - Mounts

I like #3 - that means that mounts will be able to be speedy, which is really the main point of having one.

    D&D 5E (2014) House Rule - Mounts

For me, a griffon is naturally aggressive while a riding horse is not.

    D&D 5E (2014) House Rule - Mounts

Hiya, I don't like how mounts work in 5e in combat. I'm thinking of this for a houserule. Any feedback? Mounts and riders act together on the characters turn Mounts and riders share a move speed while the character is mounted If untrained in animal handling, a character can choose either...

D&D General What did you think of the Stranger Things D&D game?

The throwing of multiple different dice at once was jarring to me, but moreso because I was worried they were going to knock over the minifigures.

D&D General What did you think of the Stranger Things D&D game?

In the late 80s my table's rule was that a critical hit did automatic maximum damage - so no need to roll.

D&D General Dungeon Magazine's Top 30 Adventures: Do they hold up?

I found "The Assassins Knot" to be the worst module I ever played (way back in the day, so I can't remember the details), but there is the glaring ommision of "The Red Hand of Doom" which is one of the best D&D campaigns ever (even if the end was a little hokey).

D&D General Empire of the Ghouls - campaign journal

If anyone else is interested in running this campaign, here is where to find it: Empire of the Ghouls for 5th Edition - Kobold Press Store

D&D General Empire of the Ghouls - campaign journal

Inspired by @Nebulous and their excellent campaign recaps, I've decided to post mine - set in the same world of midgard. This is Empire of the Ghouls campaign and so far it has been excellent. We are running it most weeks on roll20. I've been too lazy this time to write up a campaign journal...

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, how do you fudge?

All my dice rolls are out in the open. Players know that in every encounter there is a chance they might die and that makes the game better. The characters are up to level 6 now in the current campaign and there have been 2 deaths so far. My last campaign was the Tomb of Annihilation and only...

D&D General Math Question re: 3d6 vs. 4d6 drop one

I remember back in the old days you rolled 3d6 in order and then chose your class based on what you rolled. - So you didn't get to pick which attributes got the high scores. If you rolled really well in multiple stats then you could start working towards being a bard or a paladin. I think...

D&D General Math Question re: 3d6 vs. 4d6 drop one

However..... arguably only one of the stats is really important, one is a bit important and the rest not-so-much depending on the character class. So I would argue that 2 feats is a suitable replacement for doing 3d6 stat generation rather than 4d6 drop lowest.

    D&D 5E (2014) Reactions for all monsters!

Reactions are good, but I would either keep them to important monsters (like the BBEG) or make them quite specific so that they are not getting used every round. I'd hate to run a battle against 10 skeletons and every time someone takes a turn one or more skeletons get to react to it. I feel...

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiverse Theory and you

I'd like to do a multiverse spanning 'Rod of Seven Parts' campaign, but that would entail learning about (and paying for) far too many campaign worlds for my limited time.

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiverse Theory and you

A friend and me designed two overlapping campaigns. His was in Mystera and mine in Greyhawk. The conceit was that the two worlds would collide - this started out through people and monsters getting swapped into the different worlds and climaxed with two major cities suddenly inhabiting the same...

D&D 5E (2014) YOU are pitching the next big WotC Adventure. What is it???

The Rod of Seven Parts, but across the D&D multiverse with every part being in a very different world.

D&D General War! What is it Good For (in your campaigns)?

Shout out to Red Hand of Doom (3e) - Wizards of the Coast | Dungeons & Dragons 3.x | Dungeons & Dragons 3.x | Dungeon Masters Guild which I think is one of the best D&D modules and is definitely the best I have seen for addressing how PCs can get involved in an engaging way in an active war...
