D&D General Map I made this week

    Always love a large map.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

It didn't seem so aggressively monetized to me. Of course the cards are pricy for what they really are, and they didn't shy away from the rarity dynamic to drive up the price of cards. But it still felt like they wanted to make the best possible product and just released more of it to increase...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

Possibly. It felt like that by moments, but it was never obvious. They were limited by their success and the moderate size of their industry. Now that they've exploded in value and that they have the means to choose a path, they made it obvious. Their recent aggressive monetization of Magic the...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

The topic has been cleared many times. I was not the best at explaining my point succinctly, but others did. You want facts? In the last two years WotC proved to us that they're a hyper-corporate environment that puts their profit before their customer, the quality of their product, the...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

Sure. There's no gap between some companies over-monetizing their product at the expense of its quality and their consumer and the abolishment of currency and general anarchy. We can be critical of certain corporations and practices while still participating in a capitalist society by providing...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

The thing is that, in our experience, almost every time we saw a tiny bit of smoke, it turned into a roaring inferno. Does it mean this one will turn into one? Maybe one. Is it illogical to be worried that it will? I don't think so.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

I'm sorry you got piled on at the start of the thread. I just have a clear vision of how it could go (and how I think it will) because of my own experiences. But I'm open to knowing why some people are not worried and think it will be fine. The dramatic tone of my original post aside, I'm...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

I don't hate capitalism. But capitalism takes many forms and there is place for being a moral and ethical company while getting paid. It doesn't have to be an endless chase of growth and profits for profits sake.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

That's what I've been doing since I became disinterested in 5E. But I fear that their methods might spread and affect these other games that I'm enjoying. A decade ago, everyone called Electronic Arts crazy for having DLCs (downloadable content, paid) on the day of release. And now it's a standard.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

It is an expression of fear. You're entirely right. I think this shows it well. But I'm not projecting any foundation of truth. I've been clear that I'm anxious about the future of D&D and the possible impacts it could have on the industry. I'm curious to see how others feel or see what I see...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

I do decry it in other settings too. It's ridiculous how prevalent stretch goals on crowdfunding campaigns have become. If it was just added stuff, it wouldn't matter too much. But many campaigns were delivered late, had logistical problems or just didn't release because of realist stretch...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

Thank you for explaining succinctly and much better than I can how I'm feeling right now. English is not my mother tongue and I'm rambling right now.

You can now. In a couple of years you won't be able to.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

Having digital products is not the issue. Albeit I'd prefer if they moved in a more open environment (see my reply above). Bundle pricing is not an issue. We see it all the time. The artificial early access, the exclusive goods for the bundle, the number of frames and backdrop which...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

I've expressed in many details of the further stages of this path as it is now in the video game industry. It is not good for the products, it is not good for the consumers in the end. My issue with the image is not so much that the current state of things is terrible. But I saw the exact same...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Pre-orders; this is sad

I was away for a full week for vacations. I'm catching up on the news, I saw this, and I felt really sad. I'll be transparent. I grew tired of 5E about three years ago and haven't touched it since. Solely for these reasons. But the whole OGL debacle and all the other red flags that I saw pop...

I think this is exactly it. I see that I remembered some details wrong. But thank you friend!

    AD&D 1E Wilderlands experts?

Oh, I misread the post. I think these were entirely made by you. Sorry for the confusion.
