O-D&D '74 box set. Didn't really understand it at the time. Started getting the game with the blue basic box.

I've added elevation to a lot of my combats of late.

D&D General How am I a D&D outlier? How are you one?

The couple of things that are outliers for my games - I usually run D&D campaigns to 20th or very near 20th level. I enjoy all levels of play. I even run epics every once in a while so the players can roll out some retired PCs and whip some rear I let players switch PCs if they want to. I...

    Pogre's 2022 Miniatures and Models Thread - Today's Gaming set-up - A Classic D&D Adventure Site!

I think his girlfriend wanted it painted in a non-traditional way. I know it's a feline companion of some sort.

    Is GenCon still worth it?

I have been going on-and-off since 1984. I think I'm done. Totally agree with the folks above who say - you have to experience it at least once. However, not the best place to get in a lot of games - there are way better Cons for that.

What is the hardest part of writing a TTRPG?

Most smaller gaming companies do not use one, but if you are hoping to have your game considered professional it is a great investment. What distinguishes a good editor is a huge, huge topic. It really boils down to your needs. A simple copy editor to look at grammar and spelling is not hard...

    Campaign Structural Paradigms

I am similar to you -I use an episodic structure. Closer to a series that relies on earlier information in the season like GoT or Deadwood than complete episodes like The Rockford Files.

What is the hardest part of writing a TTRPG?

Depending on what you have in mind in artwork it can be the hardest or one of the easier parts. Hiring a decent editor at a reasonable rate is tough too. The stuff you can directly control? Believe it or not - that's the easy part.

    Pogre's 2022 Miniatures and Models Thread - Today's Gaming set-up - A Classic D&D Adventure Site!

First up is the 1970s groovy van wizard: Wait, why do you call him... ohhh Next is some work by my son, Steve. The first is his girlfriend's character, an archer and her pet: BTW, he painted the little Ral Partha bobcat in about 90 minutes while we were gaming last week. Next is his...

Green Ronin Announces 'Cthulhu Awakens' RPG

My thought as well. Many would question whether it is a true game or not though.

I'm a rules matter kind of guy, but if I were to choose one system I would go with BRP

D&D General Large Scale Battles - How do you DM them?

It certainly depends on your table and what they enjoy. I have used narratives and full blown miniatures battles. For most tables I would use some form of narrative, but my current table enjoys a good mass combat game. I have a casualty recovery chart and there is little chance of them being...

RPG Evolution: My Goals for 2022

I usually do create some hobby related goals, but not this year. I was extremely frustrated last year. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and it has slowed my painting down quite a bit. The end product just is not great either. So this year I made the conscious decision not to do any hobby...

D&D General DIY xps foam terrain. Videos? Pics? Advice?

As an aside, I had to purchase some foam for my recent projects and was duly impressed by how expensive a 4' x 8' sheet of two-inch foam is! I know you get a lot of terrain out of that foam, but I still had a bit of sticker shock. I knew that construction materials had jumped in price a lot due...
