Paizo Spicy hot take: Golarion isn't a setting...

OP isn't wrong, it is a multi setting, just as Faerun. But for me GMing Savage Pathfinder that's a feature, not a flaw. Having a known world with familiar cosmology, gods etc makes it easy to play campaigns with very different themes without having to invent the wheel.

A few things I really like about WFRP

I love the Old World, and there are so many things to like about 4e: great fluff and supplements from C7, amazing Foundry modules, etc etc. And has been noted, hilariously evil diseases - hello Toe Rot! But even with automating most of the crunch on Foundry, there are quirks at the core of the...

    D&D General Diabetes in dnd

I would deal with it in the same way I deal with any other special stuff during character creation. Player: Oy, I want to play a diabetic character. Me: Ok, do you have a background explanation for your character being diabetic and not cured in this setting with high magic and real gods that...

    newbies guide for Fallout 4

I will play on Normal as usual, so I trust I'll do ok with just gear boni and a good stock of the plain drugs for most fights. But then again, towards the end of any game one can never be TOO op, right.

    newbies guide for Fallout 4

As to STR 60, I’m not aiming quite that high. But I’m still planning on hitting the drugs hard this playthrough, for the fun of it. ’Roided up drug fiend is not my usual type of char in any game 😄

    newbies guide for Fallout 4

Thanks for the replies re: melee. Yeah, I'm leaning toward using weapons, if nothing else just to have some variety and Blacksmithing fun. Fisting stuff is probably hilarious for a couple of hours, but it's a long game.

    newbies guide for Fallout 4

I've reinstalled the game + DLCs and plan to make another full playthrough during the summer. Shame to say I've only made one full playthrough before, despite sinking lots and lots, and lots, of hours into the game exploring every nook. That was with a semi-cheesy stealth Deliverer VATS build -...

    Am I being too optimistic?

My total prep time is pretty constant. But most of it is spent making and moving frames for overarching plots, developing fun NPCs with depth, and further nestle webs of conspiracy, mysteries etc - ie longer term stuff that is in constant change depending on the party's latest shenanigans. For...

What are you reading in 2024?

I adore Andy Weir and see his books as great cultural acts. Not because he is a Nobel prize class stylist or literary inventor, but his books - PHM in particular - is glorious tributes to golden age sci-fi with a positive and optimistic tone that is sorely needed in this day and age. That they...

What makes something "classic feel with modern design"?

I would love something with the feel of FGU's Aftermath but playable without Excel and unlimited amounts of time.

D&D General How would you design the new 5.5 (whatever) ed PHB cover? Art!

It's fine as is. With alignment gone, the characters are about to be betrayed and chewed up by that ultra-evil gold dragon.

No More Massive Tomes of Rules

I doubt it's only starting keepers that aim for a loose simulation of an era rather than an exact period replica to the most minute detail. When I've GMed CoC I just do what I always do, make sh*t up, and my players had fun as usual without complaining about, say, that a walnut rifle stock on a...

No More Massive Tomes of Rules

What I enjoy reading: Phat heavy crunch tomes made out of whole trunks of dead trees. What I enjoy in actual play: GMing my own long campaigns using a light-mid crunch system with lots of room for GM fiat and on the spot improv. Hence, I only use Savage Worlds these days, but still enjoy reading...

What are you reading in 2024?

Still have a few books left in my complete Thomas Mann stack, currently at the end of Doctor Faustus, good stuff. In my toilet library I'm currently rererereading Gibsons Burning Chrome as a porcelain throne warmup for yet another Necromancer pleasure trip.

D&D General Social Pillar Mechanics: Where do you stand?

In all systems I GM, it’s RP first, and then rolls may modify it a little bit.

What is your favorite RPG book of all time?

For the impact it’s had on my gaming, probably Runequest 2ed core.

    This site.

I have an ad in the bottom of my iPad screen while reading this thread. It’s in Swedish and want me to buy very high end stove fan ventilation 😂

What TTRPGs have the best tactical combat rules?

I spent uncountable hours on Classic Car Wars in my teens, even though we didn't do any serious roleplaying with it. I even bought the GURPS Auto-dueling book just for the fluff. So of course it's my favorite tactical system, even if we played it with corps or auto-dueling teams as characters...

Why PCs should be competent, or "I got a lot of past in my past"

One of the reasons Savage Worlds is my main game is that while there are levels, kinda, that create a familiar sense of progress for the players, a fresh character can kill a very powerful foe, and vice versa. It's a sweet take on character progression imho, without the D&D style level rigidity...
