I'm not sure that tracks. If something's already hostile then intimidating it is likely to just provoke Initiative rolls unless its outnumbered or obviously outclassed. Intimidate works best against neutral targets that you'd prefer didn't pick a side, IME.

I like the notion that 'Seelie' and 'Unseelie' is just a mortal simplification of a much more complicated system. The various Fey Courts are constantly vying for power, dominance, etc. The Spring and Summer Courts may tend to be kinder to mortals but that doesn't mean The Green Lord will go easy...

I've literally never had a problem challenging my players in 4E or 5E and I don't have a particularly high opinion of Mearls' game design chops. The problem we're dealing with is fundamentally a player problem: players that want to optimize any fun or tension out of the game make the game worse...

Healing Surges were a great idea.... it has nothing to do with how much of your HP they heal. Healing surges were a pacing mechanic, a measure of how far the players could go before they had to take a long rest because you lose the ability to regain hit points. Hit dice serve basically the same...
