D&D 5E (2024) WotC has called the new ruleset 5.2. Why don't we?

By that logic, v5.875. And then v5.9375.

D&D 5E (2024) WotC has called the new ruleset 5.2. Why don't we?

SRD v5.2 has nothing do do with branding. It's US saying we'd prefer to use the SRD version number to delimit this revision to the core rules, not WotC. They're only using the 5.2 to delimit the SRD from the 2016 revision to the SRD.

D&D 5E (2024) WotC has called the new ruleset 5.2. Why don't we?

5.2 is this SRD revision. SRD v5.0 was 2015. SRD v5.1 was actually 2016's revisions around the release of Curse of Strahd.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

Yeah, who the HECK teaches their Ranger a move that always results in "Ranger Was Flopping Around! No Effect!" Especially one where you can't remove it without flying to Blackthorn City or somethin'

That's what I've been calling it everywhere. Others agree with us.

D&D General D&D Assumptions Ain't What They Used To Be

I meant more so crapsack desert world ruled by evil Dragon Sorcerer-King where the city is painted pretty and nice but is actually horrific underneath the layers and if you go out into the wasteland everything is trying to kill you. It's less Psionic, but it hits a lot of the same tropes...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

And yet most of the other fighting styles are like half-a-feat in power, but WotC considers the opportunity of gaining them worth a full feat (not a feat +1 ASI).

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Video Schedule: July 1st-12th!

I just KNEW my beloved Bards would be last (but not least!). People have been asking in the chat of the videos' premieres if we'd have to wait until the end for our fave class and I just KNEW it would be mine. :( Especially given that they have given no indication that they took any of the...

D&D General Build the "Definitive Pantheon"

The Greek Chaoskampf is echoes in the Titanomachy, but also in the Gigantomachy and the conflict between Zeus and Typhaon (the King of Monsters) & Echnida (the Mother of All Monsters). Typhaon and Echnida are the rough equivalent to Primordial Evil in the Hellenic pantheon, and best represented...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

And for you, that makes sense. I'm just saying that while WotC has to ensure that the game doesn't break from multiclassing, they can't ASSUME that players will be using multiclassing when accounting for access to classic archetypes, because multiclassing is a layer of complexity that is...

Planescape Rivarlies between Demon Lords, Archdevils and Celestial Paragons

4e has a lot of details into this stuff in books like Manual of the Planes, Player's Option: Heroes of the Feywild, and Demonomicon.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

It's not about getting to 20th Level. It's about seeing that 20th level endgame feature, and realizing that if you multiclass NOW, you're cutting yourself off from your endgame powers. The FOMO for something you're they're not even going to get to scares off players. Multiclassing is also just...

D&D General D&D Assumptions Ain't What They Used To Be

The only magic setting that gets vaguely close is Amonkhet, and it's still quite a bit different from Dark Sun and not nearly as crapsack of a world. I don't think there's value in abandoning the IP, just that it's a VERY difficult setting to do right. 4e's version of it sold well, but it still...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

Dip should never be assumed as baseline. Most players never want to touch multiclassing to achieve their character archetype due to missing out on endgame levels (might be less of an issue now that you can level up past 20th) or at the very least the slower leveling of power. I do think you...

D&D General D&D Assumptions Ain't What They Used To Be

The problem is settings like Dark Sun, where literally the setting falls apart or else has to have negative-continuity a la South Park, should the PC fix the bad things. I think it's quite reasonable to run a single Dark Sun campaign and then decide "okay we've SOLVED slavery!" and move onto a...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

I find it interesting that Druidic Warrior is specifically NOT a Fighting Style here, but instead a Ranger class feature that can be taken instead of a Fighting Style. This explains the Feat quantities and what was ported over from Tasha's and what wasn't, and why they said all the Tasha's...

D&D General Build the "Definitive Pantheon"

I agree that this list is like comparing the Greek/Roman/Celtic/Norse/Hindu/Persian pantheons and filing the serial numbers off at the similarities because they all share a common origin. I would argue the list takes inspiration from Semitic pantheons too, though, especially Egyptian (or at...

D&D General Build the "Definitive Pantheon"

Any of those deities can be replaced with a sufficiently powerful enough "Great Power" from one of the other planes - Archangels, Titans, Demigods, Demon Princes, Archdukes of Hell, Primordials or Genie Lords or Elemental Princes of the Inner Planes, Archfey of the Feywild, Dark Lords of the...

D&D General Build the "Definitive Pantheon"

In many Indo-European traditions, the Sun is female, and represents the eye of the Sky Father God (her father Dyeus-Pater). Sometimes she's merged with the Goddess of Dawn (Eos/Aurora/Ushas/Uzume), or sometimes the Dawn Goddess is fused with the Goddess of the Heights...
