    Whamageddon (Last) Christmas

Haven't listen to randomized music in quite a while, so three days into December I'm still going. So far this year the only Christmas music we've had is stuff I've played myself (I'm teaching myself the recorder).

    What's the best potato?

Scattered, smothered, covered and what else?

    What's the best potato?

Yukon Gold. Or are you asking for the best potato recipe? I'm confused.

    D&D 5E (2024) The Dalelands & Myth Drannor : Are they inseparable ?

Ran a multi-year campaign sandbox in the Dalelands; the players never once went near Myth Drannor. They went into the Underdark instead.

    The Secret of Weepstone

Played through the demo and had a blast, even though a few combats felt very BD&D with their flurry of misses. The exploration, puzzle/trick, and combat mix were about right for a B/X game. I'll be interested to see how the "return to town" dynamics work, assuming they have some.

    The Secret of Weepstone

Just tripped over this new digital dungeon crawler ... free demo on Steam pending release of the game. Has a very OSR feel with the black & white art and old mechanics. It also reminds me of playing Eye of the Beholder back in the day. Video intro:

    Should traps have tells?

Yes. Otherwise they're just a random "gotcha". Might as well roll a d20 every couple of turns and on a 1 kill a character.

    Ken Burns' The American Revolution

I'll have to check this out. I don't know about everyone else, but I get all my history (and math, science, and grammar) from Schoolhouse Rock. "And when the colonies complained, the King said: 'I don't care.'" I'm guessing that's not really a thing in the rest of the world.

    Secrets of low-prep homebrew [+]

For campaigns I used a lot of pieces from published adventures. Seldom the whole thing, but a map, or a keyed dungeon, or a set of encounters. I put more effort into how the things connect, and what options will arise from layer choice -- typically trying to have three options for each major...

    Do you observe Thanksgiving?

There is only one sauce, and it has ridges from the can. Thanks for the tip on the garlic cloves in the balsamic sprouts; I haven't tried that. My recipe adds chopped walnuts and chopped dried cranberries.

    Ravenloft, the Movie

Probably eaten by one of the wolves in the forest. Those wolves were nasty. One game I played in we never made it to Barovia -- we left the trail and were eaten by wolves.

    Ravenloft, the Movie

Well Strahd's really just Dracula in D&D drag, but that's how you differentiate this from everything that came before -- the vampire has a different name! And instead of Van Helsing, vampire hunter coming for him, it's a ranger, barbarian, magician, thief, cavalier, and and acrobat.

    Ravenloft, the Movie

Vampire movies always seem to carry their weight. Would a Ravenloft movie make a good D&D/vampire crossover film?

One of the best, timeless Christmas classics.

    Do you observe Thanksgiving?

Is the movie A Christmas Story? Besides, I thought the traditional Christmas feast protein was a goose. Seems odd that that's evolved for the UK given that turkeys aren't native to Europe ... but then again I guess Christmas traditions are pretty modern. My mother's family's traditional...
