    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

While I know you are referring to 5e/5.5e, weren't the Dragonborn native and important to 4e's Points of Light setting?

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I've ran into at least one other poster on another thread who didn't like how the Dragonborn were brought into the Forgotten Realms due to the Spellplague. Otoh, I liked how they were brought into the Forgotten Realms this way and set up their own nation of Tymanther. I agree. When I first...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Introducing the Abeiran Dragonborn to the Forgotten Realms IMO was easy because they were relative newcomers to the setting. They had no major impact on the lore and history that had existed in every edition version of the FR prior to their appearance in 4e. However, the introduction of the...

    D&D General Lets Make a 5e 2024 Setting - World Structure

Archipelago, Urban Sprawl, and Points of Light Frontier Or something like the Terras from the Storm Hawks cartoon series where everyone lived on plateau-topped mountains above the clouds. :) Some of which were big enough to support a small ocean (Terra Pacifica) or different biomes. As for...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I am okay with WoTC using an older setting such as the Forgotten Realms for 5e and 5.5e. If WoTC had come out with a new setting for 5e, I also would have been okay about it. I would still be role-playing D&D and having fun while doing so in either case.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Considering that 5.5e isn't too different from 5e, WoTC went half of the way instead of all of the way like they did when they made 4e.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

If you were the IP holder of a game and you decided to make a new setting using the newly updated mechanics and options of that game, would you be certain that your new setting would earn you a profit that makes up for the time and effort you just spent making it? Updating/converting an older...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

A setting contains the written lore. The PHB, DMG and MM contains the written game mechanics. When you go from one edition to the next, you are going to see more changes to the latter than the former as particular game mechanics are revised, discarded or added in the hopes that everyone will...

Even when the equipment package is the stuff you choose to create your character with (species, background, class, subclass, etc.)?

Time to check under the hood, kick the tires and look at the equipment package then. ;)

True, they didn't settle for one world for either the 2014 or 2024 version of D&D. In the 2024 species chapter for the PHB, there was mentions for more than one world (Eberron, Krynn, Toril, Oerth). If they were going to stick to one world, there would have been only one world mentioned.

Or at least borrow for their 2014 setting because that particular game feature works better for them than its' 2014 version. If a game feature doesn't work for somebody, they just need to look around for a version that does. Plenty of places to do an Investigation check in.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Many of the so-called grumblers are not 2024 5e customers. Some of us just prefer 2014 5e, an even older edition of D&D or a 5e-adjacent RPG (A5e, ToV, etc.).

If they can set one at all. There have been several instances where WoTC had done something really stupid and was completely caught off guard when the DM/Players really took an active dislike of what they had done. Ex. The OGL 1.0 debacle.

And her DM will be perfectly okay with that. They aren't going to correct her on her assumption. There is no rule that a DM has to be in lockstep with everything that's in 5.5e. They can pick and choose what they want to use and what they don't want to use. They can throw in some homebrewed...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Is this an out-of-character assumption or an in-character assumption? If you are playing as your character, do you really know if every species is in every large town or city? You don't unless your character is familiar with that large town or city. This also goes for lore. How well does your...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

I am more likely to expect the latter than the former. If your character is familiar with a particular city or town, they're going to have a good idea of what species are populating it. Especially when the DM asks them for a History check to see how well they know who lives there. If your...

Why are we just looking at species for a connection of any kind to an NPC when background can also do the very same thing? If your character has the Mercenary background, you could have a connection to a client who hired out your company's services. You could have a connection to a person who...
