D&D General Forgotten Realms: Real World Gods Still Present in the Old Empires

Nothing shows love for your gods more than stealing their old junk, I guess. :ROFLMAO: More seriously, thought, given that the current god-kings of Mulhorand are relatively newly created manifestations/Chosen, they may be sponsoring these raiders to recover the stuff of the old and long gone...

AFAIK, Greenwood's contract only covers him, with the disclaimer that what he says is canon "unless or/and until superseded" by anything published by TSR or WotC.

"Were" canon is more accurate to say. Around 2018, they came with this gem, in which they basically said "every expression of D&D has their own canon" (I still remember the uproar it caused), freeing the writers to write what they want without worrying about following a continuity. So, yes...

"Downgraded Gilgamesh" would be more accurate. Gilgeam is a "manifestation" of the actual Gilgamesh, kind of a mortal, independent avatar given autonomy and a measure of the actual god's power. Due to the Imaskari barrier blocking Toril from "not-Earth", all the Egyptian and Assyro-Babylonian...

The non-accuracy is that, in mythology/old Egyptian religion, the fusion of Horus and Ra is called Ra-Horakhty (or Re-Horakhty). Not Horus-Re. That's a horrible inaccuracy that gives me OCD. The 2014 PHB had the name right. I don't know why they have to use the inaccurate name in the new books...

Corellon and Lolth are part of the "non-human" deities group, that is "multispheric" (multiversal), and so they exist in almost all the D&D worlds. Lolth is prominent in the Realms because to the Drizzt's novels, but she is not exclusive of the Realms, or even originated there.

While Bahamut is unmentioned in these books, he has been mentioned in all the relevant books lately, including the 2024 DMG and The Book of Dragons (that includes a lot of updated Realmslore for dragons). So, he still exists in the 2024 "canon". He and Corellon aren't given the spotlight in the...

This is what I am trying to discern myself. Is either that, or the dragonborn must be putting up a very tough fight. They necessarily need divine magic if they want to counter Gilgeam's own divine power. This means, softening their views about gods, if only by necessity. The Platinum Cadre (if...

The population of the city was just 30 thousands, per the 4e sourcebooks. The population makes sense as the current Thymari dragonborn are the descendants of the survivors of the Spellplague, that was a small group to begin with. It was expanded to 50 thousands in the novels, but something tells...

The book assumes you have previous knowledge of the area. That is not a good thing for a book that supposedly is intended to be a new players entry... That is not said in any source. However, the battle lasted at least 80 years and spanned a trilogy of novels about it, so you can imagine the...

Actually, Enlil only managed to protect one, Djerad Thymar, and he barely managed to do it. However, I think that he may have been ignored by the new writers team, as he was mentioned in novels and not in any sourcebook. There are already other section of the book that also ignored developments...

I think most have this idea about retcons being a bad thing, and that is not necessarily true. Retcons just are changes to the continuity that happen in more recent media, bur are treated to be like "things were always that way". Whether that's a bad thing or not, depends on who you ask.

Or we can assume they destroyed it for good, or sent it to Abeir (alongside the lake), etc... Given time, I can even came up with a fix that I actually like. The point is, however, that I'm aware of the reason why they didn't include it in the map (most likely because, as you say, there was...
