Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

I don’t mind metal and horns, but the ability to punt me across the room with a little finger when I get annoying is a bit off-putting.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Wherever the setting says they come from. The rules deliberately avoid ruling on that stuff.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

What has been realised is you don’t need any mechanics to do that stuff. You can just write it and roleplay it. So 5e has dialled back on the mechanics. Leaving nothing that can “define” a setting.

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

Wyll is just too nice, even the devilish pact and big horns can’t make him sexy. Gale is an unlikable creep, and Jalhera is everyone’s mother.

I’m not familiar with the original context, but my cat would ignore the note. I just wish she would clean up the feathers after.

New Star Trek Movie Coming From D&D Movie Creators

It’s boring and humourless, but it’s not embarrassing.

New Star Trek Movie Coming From D&D Movie Creators

I think it manages to get comedy, character beats, action and horror together in one movie, and still remain coherent. But for me, not having Shatner in it is a major plus. Also, the only one with Broccoli.

New Star Trek Movie Coming From D&D Movie Creators

These two (and 1, 2, 3, 7 and 10) lack the element of allegory that are characteristic of a TV show episode. Insurrection leans heavily into the allegory. I guess 5 is trying to be allegorical, but it’s messaging is very confused. “Cults are bad” I guess.

New Star Trek Movie Coming From D&D Movie Creators

First Contact edges it out as my personal favourite, but that’s just because I prefer TNG cast. But Insurrection is the most like a movie length episode of the TV show.

New Star Trek Movie Coming From D&D Movie Creators

It’s not just bad, it’s embarrassing. It discredits the entire franchise.

Shawn Levy Provides Update on Netflix D&D Show

Frankly, they are still a little slow on the uptake. Despite progress, D&D players are still majority male. That’s a bunch of potential D&D players to market too.

Romantasy is certainly where WotC needs to be looking to grow the brand.

Shawn Levy Provides Update on Netflix D&D Show

I’m not sure copies sold is a good guide. I’m pretty sure there are a pile of soppy romance novels that have outsold all of them!

Your top 5 sci-fi movies (and why)

What is being depicted is apathy. No one cares what they do, because it has no meaning. So they choose to do nothing.

Those are considered genre classics (at least the 2nd two) on a par with LotR. WoT isn’t quite at the same level, but it’s close. Drizzt is Doctor John Thorndike.

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

The core rules of 5e are deliberately genic and open to interpretation. This is one of the reasons for it's popularity. Settings tend to nail down the fluff which 5e deliberately leaves open. E.g. clerics get their spells from the gods, there are no gods and clerics get their spells from the...

Your top 5 sci-fi movies (and why)

The humans in Wall-E have nothing to do apart from sit around and wait to die. Which we can assume won't take long since they are all massively overweight. Of course, they might be like the Eloi in the Time Machine, and they are overweight because they are going to become food. But without...

Your top 5 sci-fi movies (and why)

No, it isn't. A hobby is just a job that you do to please yourself. And you don't need to be particularly "wealthy" to choose your job, and find something that is rewarding and satisfying. I was a teacher, that's not exactly a well paid job, and often it wasn't pleasurable, but I did it for the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Let's Write A High Level Adventure

I don’t find that practical in 5e. It becomes slow and unwieldy. Players get bored when they spend over half an hour waiting to take their turn. And many of the NPC combatants on either side can’t make a meaningful contribution anyway. Allies are a liability. 1st edition or BX were much better...

Shawn Levy Provides Update on Netflix D&D Show

I would think the opposite is more likely - the writers could tell whatever story they wanted with D&D, especially if they go with a homebrew setting. Telling your own stories is what D&D is for. Although they really need to ditch the live action idea. Top quality animation would be far more...
