Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Some people are absolutely committed to misunderstanding everything you say or interpreting what you say in the worst possible way. There’s nothing you can do about it. No amount of explaining will ever get through. Just put them on ignore and walk away.

D&D General Which Campaign or Adventure Would You Adapt To Prestige Television?

Same idea with Dark Sun, Spelljammer, and Maztica. Would love to see some (big or small) screen adaptations of those settings.

    Player skill vs character skill?

Sorry. That's one I completely agree with. I'm so tired of rolling dice just to hear the sound they make when they hit the table. If the situation isn't going to change regardless of the result, don't bother rolling.

    D&D General D&D memes thread discussion…

Yeah, it's just one of those things. It's a great insight into just how little grasp on storytelling a lot of gamers have though. "Why not just have Gandalf summon the Eagles and fly the Ring to Mount Doom?!" This epic thing that's the epicenter of so much of geek culture. Yeah, let's...

What makes setting lore "actually matter" to the players?

I think that’s great encapsulated advice for everyone at the table. It’s collaborative storytelling. If you’re not interested in collaborating, this is not the hobby for you.

    Immersion?

I ask them what them mean by it because everyone seems to have their own definitions of practically every word these days. # I saw a great video recently about immersion. I thought it was worth sharing.

    Dragonbane general thread [+]

I tend to stick with one-time magic items. D&D-like gear with straight bonuses strikes me as boring. I wouldn't want to use anything like a bag of holding as it renders the hard-scrabble aspects of the game moot.

    Dragonbane general thread [+]

I absolutely would. Some monsters have ferocity equal to the # of PCs. Very few have 4 ferocity. Most have 2-3. It seems fairly standard. If you're not sure about ferocity, you could go with a monster with multiple arms that get damaged and lose attacks as the combat goes on. Something like a...

New Tunnels & Trolls first look at UK Games Expo. Update: Beta releaseed.

It reminds me of the interview Ben Milton did with Mike Mearls. Mike effectively said you either cater to your existing fans or fire them and try to get new fans. This reads very much like the latter. It just seems so weird. The small but dedicated fanbase of T&T apparently just wasn’t...

    Should traps have tells?

According to this article the casualty rate was 33%. Video: Here are the little known 'Tunnel Rat' soldiers of the Vietnam War So going with that figure, 1/3 of all PCs who are specially trained to engage with traps (rogues) simply die or are so wounded as to be removed from action long term...

    Player skill vs character skill?

Exactly that. When I say player skill, that's exactly what I mean. Players solving problems with their ingenuity and brains rather than rolling dice. Interacting with the environment and interrogating the fiction.

What makes setting lore "actually matter" to the players?

Lore matters to players when it matters to their characters. Lore matters to the characters when it has an immediate and direct impact on what they’re doing right now, something that’s coming up very soon, or something that happened in the recent past. No one cares about the history of the...

    Should traps have tells?

For me it’ll always come back to Vietnam. That’s how traps work. Whenever someone says, “That’s not how traps work.” I point to Vietnam. If that’s how they worked in Vietnam, that’s how they work in my games. If a trap has a tell, the tell itself is a trap. It’s asymmetrical warfare. That’s...
