Level Up (A5E) Wildborne ranger spells

I think using 5E D&D and/or D&D 2024 Ranger spells with an A5E Ranger is quite reasonable. We're using 5E D&D spells with A5E, in cases where there is no equivalent A5E spell. There are a few cases that have been disallowed, such as Hellish Rebuke, as that has been replaced by the Warlock's...

    D&D 5E (2024) Tuning big single creatures into multi-part-creatures.

Nice idea, but could be tricky to balance. How do PCs target an individual area of the large creature (e.g., are some portions higher or lower AC, or at disadvantage to attack), and does damage inflicted to them subtract off of its original total or not? For example, can I attack the less...

Level Up (A5E) Spell or feat for A5E Druids to shift/resize gear for use in wild shape

Per the rules for Druid's wild shape on page 172 of the A5E Adventurer's Guide, "Any equipment you are wearing or wielding merges into your new form. Equipment that merges with your form has no effect until you leave the form." Whereas 5E and D&D 2024 permit use of some equipment when wild...

Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerun - First Impressions

IMHO, it wouldn't be difficult to have slavery fall into disfavor in the Underdark, whether for moral reasons, economic efficiency, due to rebellion, and/or civil war. I think that Drow and Duergar being slavers has not aged well, nor is it necessary for the setting. If that is how someone wants...

Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerun - First Impressions

So, the Drow are still slavers then. I was wondering if/when they would drop the rampant slavery in the Forgotten Realms' Underdark.

D&D General Initial Thoughts on the Two 2025 Forgotten Realms books

I gather that there's nothing in the two new Forgotten Realms books relating to the Underdark. I shall await such a publication.

Homebrew Regarding converting O5E third party and homebrew classes to A5E

The simplest thing to do is to just add adventuring knacks, assuming the classes are on par for combat capability.

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on bonus action potions?

A stainless steel flask for 1 oz of liquid weighs about 2 oz empty, 3 oz full. Say have a rubber stopper at the top that you can easily pop when you take it from your potion bandolier and swig it. Collect the used flasks after the battle, if they haven't been crushed, for a discount at your...

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on bonus action potions?

Which is why you have a bandolier of potions to ensure that they are readily accessible. Look at military kit over the last couple of millennia, there's a reason why bandoliers, quivers, and belt pouches for ammunition were used.

Level Up (A5E) A5E Druid wild shape change - equipment worn/wielded always merges

By the A5E rules as written, a Druid can wild shape into plant or beast form, and use their Druid proficiencies therein. Druids have shield proficiency. Vegepygmies are humanoid shaped and tool using, with weapons such as spears and slings. They are size small. I don't see any limitations on...

Level Up (A5E) A5E Druid wild shape change - equipment worn/wielded always merges

Yes. Just like every other adventurer, except perhaps Adepts/Monks. :)

Level Up (A5E) A5E Druid wild shape change - equipment worn/wielded always merges

Thanks Lichmaster. Yes, my A5E level 5 Druid with the Skinchanger archetype now spends much of the time wild shaped. With better magical equipment found and purchased at level 5, her original form has higher AC and does more damage. At level 6, with CR 2 wild shapes + Nature's Wrath for +d6...

Level Up (A5E) A5E Druid wild shape change - equipment worn/wielded always merges

Reading through A5E, 5E, and D&D 2024 carefully, I noticed the following difference between A5E vs. 5E and D&D 2024: In A5E, "Any equipment you are wearing or wielding merges into your new form. Equipment that merges with your form has no effect until you leave the form." 5E and D&D 2024 both...

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on bonus action potions?

Yes. Well said. Similarly, my wild shaping Druid has been buying other PCs one or two healing items for use on me or others, as I won't have access to those healing items while wild-shaped.

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on bonus action potions?

Spell casters with the 2024 version of Healing Word should indeed use that as a bonus action instead. A spell scroll of Healing Word can be used as a bonus action if it on your spell list, so yes that is cheaper too at 25 gp vs. 50 gp for potion of healing.

Level Up (A5E) Removing Pointless Death (+)

One thing that would be helpful for something like this is to have an automated encounter build that not just estimates combined CR, but actually allows you to run combat simulations with the party assuming for example that they stand there with poor tactics and just spam their basic attacks or...

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on bonus action potions?

Regarding the length of a round, 12 second rounds would not be unreasonable, and likely not break anything except perhaps regarding movement. That's 5 rounds of 12 seconds in a minute, so spells with a minute of duration are still last throughout most combats. At least in my experience, many...

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on bonus action potions?

There are a two main aspects of the discussion here: One is keep it simple, the rules are an abstraction, bonus action potions make sense mechanically, 1/2 lb is a simple weight to use when calculating. Yes, I agree with this. Another is that drinking 4 oz of liquid takes too long for it to be...

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on bonus action potions?

A quick internet shows glass vial weight of 27g for a 30mL (i.e., 1 oz) container. 27 grams is 0.95 oz. So for a potion vial with 1 oz of liquid, the weight of the vial itself is 1 oz, total weight of 1/8 lb (0.12 lb). Similarly, the glass vial weight is 108g for a 120mL (i.e., 4 oz) container...

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on bonus action potions?

It depends how the glass vials are stored, but yes, there could be some risk of breakage. I would have them stored in padded little boxes in a potion bandolier for easy access and to reduce that problem. In settings with more advanced technologies than the Renaissance period, you could...
