This Year Was Our Best DRAGONMEET Yet At It's New London Home

I don't really think a lot of us appreciate the logistical planning and execution that goes into making such a large event successful. We don't think about how the sausage is made, we just enjoy eating it. Changing venue can be a difficult decision, but it sounds like it was to their benefit...

    Ravenloft, the Movie

And the sad truth is that nobody really knows what's going to be successful. You can hedge your bets, but at the end of the day even good movies sometimes fail to find an audience.

    Ravenloft, the Movie

There were a number of bestselling Ravenloft novels in the 1990s including I, Strahd and Vampire of the Mist. I don't think the IP has negative value.

    Ravenloft, the Movie

What setting is likely to produce a good movie? Because I don't think any of them are. You point out that directing, acting, script, editing, sound design, etc., etc., are what you need for a good movie. Edge Runners isn't a good series because Night City made it likely to produce a good...

I heard someone singing "Fleas on my dog" and I can't unhear it.

    Player skill vs character skill?

Player skill as in using the rules to their maximum advantage. That's an aspect of the game, right?

    Player skill vs character skill?

In the various Modiphius 2d20 games, like Star Trek, Fallout, Conan, etc., etc., there's a shared resource, it's called something different in each game, but we'll call in Momentum for now, that's generated by rolling more successes than is necessary to complete a task. i.e. If a player needs...

    Do you observe Thanksgiving?

Because our current Thanksgiving isn’t directly tied to the harvest. The holiday as we know it today wasn’t finalized until the 20th century when it was fixed to a particular day.

Kickstarter Traveller 5e powered by the DnD SRD in 2026 crowdfunding

During the d20 glut in the early 2000s, d20 Call of Cthulhu was a game nobody asked for and a lot people did not want. It was a surprisingly good adaptation. I was prepared to dislike it, but it was so well done it remains a bright spot of the d20 era for me. I’m hoping this version of...

Traveller 5e coming from World's Largest RPG in cooperation with Mongoose Publishing

D&D won that contest a long, long time ago. And it wasn't really a contest. I don't say that to badmouth Traveler. While I've never played it, I do own the Mongoose version, it's a good game with a long, proud history. It's just that D&D was an continues to be the juggernaut of table top...

    Ravenloft, the Movie

Five years from now, who knows? You can make a Ravenloft movie on a relatively small budget compared to Honor Among Thieves. D&D is under monetized according to WotC, they’ve got all that wonderful IP sitting around not doing anything.

    Ravenloft, the Movie

Who is the they? The filmmakers might use Strahd because WotC is willing to help finance the film. WotC might want to see a Strahd movie in the hopes of putting their under monetized IP to good use. D&D has a long history of flirting with mainstream media success.

    Ravenloft, the Movie

OP asked if it'd be a good movie. Not whether it's feasible.

    Ravenloft, the Movie

I'm of the mind that a good writer can turn just about any idea into a decent story and Ravenloft has over 40 years of good lore to mine from. There barebones plot for the original I-6 module could make for a pretty good movie in and of itself. The nice thing about a Ravenloft movie is it...

Karma, Rewards /Consequences Do you use it? If so, what is good, and if not what is bad?

TSR's Marvel Superheroes had a Karma system designed to encourage player characters to engage in silver age super heroics like saving lives, rescuing people, going out of their way to help someone, etc., etc. I don't remember the particulars, but I think deliberating killing someone resulted in...
