I was contemplating exactly "cast 1 spell per level per day" for my homebrew as it's quite simple. But it meant too few spells at low level. But I didn't think about allowing a caster check after that for more spells. Not a bad solution.

Turns out the game is based on a true story.

IIRC the way it works is that you can keep casting a spell until you fail the casting check. Then you can't cast that spell against for the remainder of the day. So there is still some tracking.

I've been looking at various methods for my own homebrew. I'd like as little tracking as possible while having spells being powerful, so the DCC casting check method seemed obvious. Unfortunately, I don't like the permanent corruptions or self-exploding, and it's hard to make that system work...

Okay, tried some variations and one of them caused me to die IRL. After a reload, I decided to take a different resolution which prevented the NPCs from trying to kill each other and now they are reacting appropriately in dialogue. Hopefully that will prevent technical issues later in the game.

Yes. It's annoying because there are a ton of items that have very specific uses, so I end up carrying loads around in case those situations arise. I prefer a more reasonable amount and for most items having it be more clear whether it's an upgrade or not. I think in Act 1 alone in this game you...
