D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

Bonus points for going Artificers (armorer). Just need to make it so that you can use the Magic Action to transform between armor types instead of that oddly long time, and viola.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Point Buy Balanced?

At some point, we need to set a baseline. Now, no ability generation is going to be balanced. This isn't point buy's faults, but the classes'. Some classes are MAD, some are SAD. Monk relies much more on its attributes than, say, the Rogue. All casters come off as single-attribute dependent...

    D&D 5E (2024) Artificer: Spell Storing Item?

No, no you do not. Chapter 7 of the PHB, page 235, makes a clear, hard-line distinction between casting with spell slots, and casting without. There's three headers under the Spell Level section- Spell Slots, Casting without Slots, and Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. Cantrips, rituals, special...

D&D General Your Core Classes if The Core 4 Aren't Allowed

The four "core" commoner classes. Farmer. Chef. Maid. Merchant. Species options: Average, robot-ish, fey-ish, smol, swol, furry, scaly.

D&D 5E (2024) So, what does the Artificer "replace"?

So, make Jack of all trades the default?

I think they build these guys using standard PC rules first, then convert them to a more simplified MM stat block. The guy has 19 HD, which means that he qualified for an Epic Boon, which lets you go over 20 in a stat. Whatever feat they picked was irrelevant for a fight, so it was removed...

D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

Meh. Edition wars happen with every new edition. Even from 3.0 to 3.5, 4e to 4Essentials, and now 5e14 to 5e24. Some people adapt to the new, others stay with the old. Its just that going out on a sour grapes rant is ... bleh. The man doesn't vibe with the new edition. Sucks, but that's...

D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

My favorite levels are 3 to 11. With 11 as a kind of capstone for the characters. 12 isn't bad, but its just a feat and, tbh, I feel like its more exciting to end on a high note. Getting your subclass is such a qualitative change for some characters that its a hard fit sometimes to justify...

Well, first you have to complete the scheduling mini-game before you can sit down to have a session, and...

D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

Just out of curiosity, why do you feel that way? Honestly curious The only thing I can think of is that Fighter and Rogue got their psionic subclasses in the core, making it two mundane and two supernatural subclasses each, instead of two and one, respectively, in 2014. And maybe the...

D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

Amusingly enough, the definition of Elemental from the MM25 is still "hails from the elemental planes." Which is at odds with how merfolk and lizardfolk are depicted. So, the book itself remains confused on the matter.

D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

Honestly, I would have expected more complaints about how to explain mortal, flesh and blood creatures as elementals and fiends. I don't think anyone expects a lizardman sovereign to be suddenly an immortal spirit, but rather just a mortal that's inexplicitly immune to Hold Person and the like.

Here's the thing. They did. Like with the whole warlock level 3 patreon video and the backlash that came from it. JC provided an in character, story-based explanation. It just wasn't popular.

D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

WRONG. Everyone plays MY way, or they shall be made to SUFFER. You know, the usual. I think its one thing to admit that you aren't vibing with the new rules. Its another to complain about sour grapes on the way out and engage in mud-slinging edition-warring using memes and hurt feelings...

D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

I remember when the paladin shifted from a mundane horse mount in 3e to a summoned beast in 3.5. The mundane concerns of caring for an actual animal were impractical when it came to dungeon delving. So, they got rid of it.

D&D 5E (2024) Ranger sub-class that make somewhat decent melee?

Levels 1-4, a TWFing Ranger is actually considered to be one of the best damage dealers, if not THE best. Levels 5-9? A bit trickier, since so many of the best combat spells for a Ranger are going to be Concentration. I've seen people put together a Warcaster + Duel Wielding feat mix, then...

D&D 5E (2024) So, what does the Artificer "replace"?

My argument: "Here's a list of all archer-y abilities Ranger has, and that I'm considering." Your response: "You didn't take the Ranger abilities into account!" Respond to my actual points instead of made up ones, and I will happily discuss.

D&D 5E (2024) What 2024 class have you played the most

okay, so, question. Was it just a name, did he have an average of three toes each foot, or was it six toes on one foot?

D&D 5E (2024) So, what does the Artificer "replace"?

Kindly stop twisting my words. I was very clear that Conjure Barrage and Lightning Arrow count as archery spells, for instance. Furthermore, the majority of my argument was primarily based around Fighter's core features, not any specific subclass. I'm done. Have a good one.

D&D 5E (2024) What 2024 class have you played the most

I tend to focus on hybrid classes - paladin, ranger, warlock, and now artificer. Current character is fiend blade'lock.
