[WIR] The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

Note: I began this series much earlier on other forums, but am reposting it here. Doing 1 post a day so as to avoid intimidating walls of texts for readers. While tabletop gaming is still very near and dear to my heart, I've been getting more into reading more traditional literature. And I...

D&D General Reasons I Love the Dalelands as a Campaign Location

I don't see how the art looks "kiddy" to me, tbh. If going by the link, we have a map, a happy tiefling with glowing eyes, a spider-monster holding what looks like a lamp, and a unicorn at night. The unicorn might have the most "all ages" saccharine flavor given their prominence in...

Spoilers Stranger Things Season 5 - SPOILERS

As someone who hasn't watched the show but is very aware of its ties to D&D, I was pondering something in regards to Vecna being a villain in the current season. As D&D is a tabletop game in the universe of the show, were Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson aware of the various monsters in the series...

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeons of Drakkenheim: a dark fantasy sandbox in a ruined city

The Dungeon Dudes recently put out a KickStarter for a Daggerheart conversion for this adventure. And between now and then, they released a setting sourcebook (Sebastian Crowe's Guide to Drakkenheim), a bestiary (Monsters of Drakkenheim), and several stand-alone smaller adventures (In Search of...

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeons of Drakkenheim: a dark fantasy sandbox in a ruined city

Apologies for the very late reply, it slipped by me. If you mean Ghostfire Gaming, I don't see anything saying as such, so it's better to be cautious. I'd recommend contacting them directly; I heard from others that they're timely with their replies.

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

My Predictions: 1. Dark Sun for 5e. 2. A sourcebook on how to convert entire settings to the Forgotten Realms. 3. A 2024/5.5 update for Xanathar's and Tasha's. I can totally see WotC charging twice for the same product. 4. An adventure or regional setting sourcebook leeching off of the success...

D&D 5E (2024) [Eberron, 5th Edition] A comparison of the 2020 Tasha's Artificer to the 2025 Forge of the Artificer

They can craft it at 6th level. Why should 14th level be the byline, in your opinion? There are spells that can do multi-target Frightened condition at much lower levels, and the save DC being static means that it doesn't improve like it would with a known/learned spell. It's an effective magic...

D&D 5E (2024) [Eberron, 5th Edition] A comparison of the 2020 Tasha's Artificer to the 2025 Forge of the Artificer

It sounds like this may be a limitation of the specific website software in how it incorporates options, as opposed to something intended in tabletop play. It's an issue still worth raising to site support, although I wouldn't know who to contact as I don't use Beyond for chargen.

D&D 5E (2024) [Eberron, 5th Edition] A comparison of the 2020 Tasha's Artificer to the 2025 Forge of the Artificer

Thank you, made a correcting edit. So I have the D&D Beyond version, and for +1/+2 weapons and armor, I don't see anywhere in the text where it mentions that a Magic Item Plan for the weapon/armor options can only emulate a specific piece of equipment once chosen. They're just "Weapon, +1" and...

D&D 5E (2024) [Eberron, 5th Edition] A comparison of the 2020 Tasha's Artificer to the 2025 Forge of the Artificer

    1. It more or less does the same things rolewise, but with improvements where I mentioned. So to me it's like an Artificer Plus. 2. Yes, the formatting's easier to read and there's less mixture of fluff and crunch within the same sentence; so when you get rules, you get rules. 3. I don't think...

D&D 5E (2024) What's New with the Artificer in Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

I have the book early due to preorder. For those interested, I did a side-by-side comparison of the old and new Artificer in another thread here.

D&D 5E (2024) [Eberron, 5th Edition] A comparison of the 2020 Tasha's Artificer to the 2025 Forge of the Artificer

Eberron Artificer, Old vs New While I won't be doing a full review of Forge of the Artificer, at the very least I figured to cover its updated Artificer class for the 2024 ruleset. For comparison, I'm going to be using the 5.0 Artificer from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, which I'll call the...

OSR A new Revised & Expanded edition of Labyrinth Lord is out

Clerics are listed as a playable option in the product blurb, and the product preview lists them in the Table of Contents as being on page 14.

OSR A new Revised & Expanded edition of Labyrinth Lord is out

It released on Drive-Thru RPG earlier today. I don't have it, but wanted to share nonetheless. From looking at the preview and product blurb, the things that stand out the most to me are the classes. There's no Thief, but there is a Burglar, which may be a renamed version. There's no Halflings...

D&D 5E (2024) Ed Greenwood to Publish 4 New Forgotten Realms Sourcebooks in 2026

The only experience I have with his adventures are the Avatar trilogy, which get a lot of criticism for the railroaded nature. Same here! Thank you for the explanation. I still think that he'll be applying a bit of a "personal touch" that will make it through into the work. The DM's Guild...

D&D 5E (2024) Ed Greenwood to Publish 4 New Forgotten Realms Sourcebooks in 2026

Forgotten Realms creator Ed Greenwood announced on a public Patreon post that he would be writing four new Forgotten Realms guidebooks in 2026. There's also an official site for it over on MythMakers. All four books will all be published on the Dungeon Master's Guild. Each sourcebook focuses on...

    Draw Steel General Thread [+]

Almost done reading Draw Steel: Heroes. Only have two chapters left covering the Gods/religion and Gamemastering. Haven't had the opportunity to play it, but it really looks to be a streamlined 4e-esque system. Feels a lot simpler to understand and keep track of bonuses and modifiers, and like...

[General Discussion Q&A] Shadow of the Weird Wizard [+]

I'm a fan of both this RPG and its Demon Lord predecessor, but sadly only ever ran 2 modules for the latter many years ago. If I ever start running games again besides D&D, SotWW/DL would be among my top picks.
