DMs Guild Castlevania II in D&D 5th Edition!

I posted it a couple of weeks ago but forgot to put a link here, sorry. Castle Dracula II: Dracula's Curse The preview includes the campaign log up to December. They have 4/6 items and are currently (end of January) in the boss fight for item #5. The AC 16 monk decided diving through a room...

    Coming High level Monster Manual

Thanks, I'd never heard of them. The guild's money splits aren't great, but I feel like they have a lot more visibility.

    Coming High level Monster Manual

I've been running an adventure for 20th+ level characters (lots of epic boons, enemies of all types that they have to defend a point against for a time period). I've found that many creature types or factions have a very narrow band of useful CRs. Yugoloths cap out around CR 13, most of the...

    D&D Announces Collaboration with Fortnite

I still play games, they're just not new ones.... MechWarrior Online and Factorio keep me pretty well entertained.

    D&D 5E (2014) 14th level cleric

On the upside, it doesn't require the metagame knowledge of "what CR is this creature?" so it's easier to use... and still does something to bigger undead.

    D&D 5E (2014) 14th level cleric

It lets you go "haha, I'm cool" and wipe out a bunch of mooks. If you end up defending against a town against a horde of skeletons/zombies/wights/shadows/ghouls, your character can pick points that are close to being overrun, show up, and blast them all with no effort several times per day.

    D&D Announces Collaboration with Fortnite

I thought Fortnite was a mobile game? IDK, I'm old and out of touch at 42.

D&D 5E (2024) Mearls has some Interesting Ideals about how to fix high level wizards.

Speed of Play: Aside from spells, there really aren't that many high level class features that get more complex for most classes. Rogue gets better defenses and more dice, cleric gets better divine strike & divine intervention, wizard/sorc get maybe 1 subclass feature after 10, Fighters get...

D&D 5E (2024) Mearls has some Interesting Ideals about how to fix high level wizards.

If someone really wanted to go on-theme I'd let them make a sorc or warlock from a themed list even if it crosses classes. Maybe a Fathomless Warlock who controls all things liquid. That gives you a cold/water/acid theme that's pretty solid with a mix of control & damage spells. A bit light...

D&D 5E (2024) Mearls has some Interesting Ideals about how to fix high level wizards.

Yes... unfortunately, they're split over multiple classes and not all of equal utility. Water's first damaging spell is at 3rd level (Tidal Wave), and then it has Summon Elemental, Watery Sphere, Maelstrom, Horrid Wilting, and Tsunami. Very end-loaded, and the top damage spell (Horrid Wilting...

D&D 5E (2024) Mearls has some Interesting Ideals about how to fix high level wizards.

I recently (this week!) made a list of spells organized by theme to use for PCs and NPC creation. I couldn't find anything on the DM's Guild, so it's posted there as PWYW. I didn't put counts in, but here's a quick look at stuff you could build a character around. Acid: 6 Antimagic: 9...

D&D 5E (2024) Mearls has some Interesting Ideals about how to fix high level wizards.

I'm glad all of your players have read the PHB and memorized their class features. They can probably even level up their characters away from the table and not during game time. Congratulations! That's not a universal experience. If fixing the interface and data presentation prevents some...

D&D 5E (2024) Mearls has some Interesting Ideals about how to fix high level wizards.

I think part of the "problem" here is the trouble people have keeping track of their spells. That's not a "the spells are bad" problem (aside from a few). That's an interface problem. When you're in combat, you're usually not saying "I want to cast a 4th level spell right now." You're saying...

The campaign log covers over 70 sessions and 130,000 words. Is that sufficient "more"? :)

D&D 5E (2024) Mearls has some Interesting Ideals about how to fix high level wizards.

Paragon tier puts 5e more into superhero territory. If the old and decrepit wizard isn't actually an angel, is he about as good as resisting being knocked over (+6) than Arnie the 22 year old weightlifter (+5 on a 1st level character barb). It might be a good idea but I doubt it. There are...

    D&D General Making consistent Monsters?

MM on a business card has a quick comparison chart for 6 numbers that'll get you pretty reliably close every time. Stat out what you think a monster should be, and then check the chart to see what CRs its AC, HP, to-hit, damage, and best save line up with. Take the average value and that puts...

D&D General What would you do? (Example from my game)
