D&D General Hope and Fear In D&D

That may be true, but does having advantage or disadvantage make the roll inherently more "narrative friendly?" I don't think so. Maybe on way to bridge that gap if for players and GMs to start with Hope and Fear resources, and you use them to activate the narrative. That is, after the roll is...

D&D General Hope and Fear In D&D

I'm still not sure why you want to do that.

Daggerheart Sold Out in Two Weeks, Has Three-Year Plan in Place

yeah, I am not sure @Parmandur quite understands the permanently reduce Hope pool. it is an inevitable death spiral. You are literally Doomed.

Daggerheart Sold Out in Two Weeks, Has Three-Year Plan in Place

Scars that permanently limit one's Hope pool does have that feel, tho.

D&D General D&D Evolutions You Like and Dislike [+]

I view the rules governing the PCs and the rules governing the NPCs to be necessarily different given the practicalities of running the game. I admit that it does get a little fuzzy when an NPC is coded as something like a classed character, but beyond there there is no in-fiction reason NOT to...

    Where are the forum rules?

Thanks. Very small text, I did not see it.

    Where are the forum rules?

My guess would be they would be stickied in the Meta forum, but I don't see it. And on a site like this searching "rules" is... no helpful. Maybe the Rules post is by Morrus and since he has me blocked it is invisible? In any case, I was hoping to look up the rules regarding +threads, since I...

Preferences vary, for sure. One thing that I am glad for is that monsters/NPCs DO NOT follow PC rules.

D&D General Hypothetical: D&D without ability scores (or bonuses)

I like the IDEA of the old saves, in that there are these specific things in the world that can cause harm, but I don't like that list. What if saves were based on the damage types instead, with effects expanded beyond simple damage. "Make a save vs necrotic" or whatever.

D&D General D&D Evolutions You Like and Dislike [+]

D&D has been changing since the first time it was played, let along published. Cross pollination with related media as well as other RPGs, not to mention the simple creativity of the people making the game over the years and editions, have caused many elements of D&D to evolve. Sometimes these...

D&D General Hope and Fear In D&D

Yeah, this defeats the whole purpose of having the Hope/Fear axis.

D&D General Hypothetical: D&D without ability scores (or bonuses)

Sure, but there is definitely more interesting design space and discussion juice in eliminating them.

D&D General Hope and Fear In D&D

A crit could be doubles as long as that still hits. That should be roughly the same probability. It isn't that easy. Hope powers a lot of abilities in DH. What are the 5E characters going to do with those Hope points? Less importantly but still relevant, some monster abilities are powered by...

What are you reading in 2026?

I have started "This Day In History Some Sh!t Went Down" which is a sweary, relatively shallow but nonetheless interesting history book. I don't remember where I heard about it -- it may have even been here -- but I am thoroughly enjoying the foul language and knowledge dump. WARNING: the author...

D&D General [Name Change]Red Hand of Doom Conversions

I am changing the thread's direction little. I would like to talk about whatever conversions of RHoD folks have done or are considering, from 5E to Daggerheart to Savage Pathfinder etc...
