D&D General Adventurers a distasteful necessity

Adventurers are mercenaries and while they are great to have available when Dark Lords begin gathering minions or the monsters are marauding, nobody wants to keep having to pay them once the threats are past. Especially as mercenaries left idle and unpaid can quickly turn to brigands - there's a...

D&D General Short folk appreciation thread – what do you play?

how are they different, what makes them distinctive that isnt cultural flavour? Halflings are so named because they are small humans, the culture of the Shire is based on the English Midlands (who are human despite rumours to the contrary)

Marvel Television’s Wonder Man | Official Trailer

WandaVision features the return of Monica Rambeau from the Blip and the hospital in chaos as people suddenly reappear (Monica also learns her mother passed on during the Blip). Monica shows the public chaos contrasting with Wanda's very personal trauma. Hawkeye shows Yelena's Blip (as an...

D&D General Short folk appreciation thread – what do you play?

yeah autognomes were always a bad joke, since they first appeared in 2e, someone had obviously been watching too much of Star Wars and Buck Rogers and wanted their own Twiki. and yeah now that humans can be small, theres very little point to halflings

Marvel Television’s Wonder Man | Official Trailer

Practically every Marvel TV show has referenced the Blip and most of the movies have too unless they were in a different Timeline (Loki, Guardians 3). Sure some of the references seem a bit frivolous but thats just the MCU idea of moving on. I suppose that in a world were people are realising...

D&D General Short folk appreciation thread – what do you play?

And even Barbarian Bards but yeah people still have that resistance to demihumans having different cultures that would allow Tinkers and Forest gnomes and house Brownies to be the same species. Of course past DnD defaulting to subraces for every environment didnt help

When Player Driven Adventures Don't Pan Out

Thats an easy one, I spent years as a gnome alchemist running my own laboratory and shop. The thing is an alchemist needs to gather rare and often dangerous ingredients as well as mixing strange formulas and taking unusual request - and the customers arent always of this world.

When Player Driven Adventures Don't Pan Out

I consider inspiration to be diagetic, especially as I connect it directly to PC traits and goals, so Charactets feel inspired by their passions and bonds. Moreover the rally action can inspire others and imc Leanan Sidhe drain inspiration or cha

When Player Driven Adventures Don't Pan Out

You said they were all hurt by the Usurper but do the PCS have a list of character goals and drives? Do pursuing those goals have mechanical effect? If you have that list then you just put that in front of them, add a challenge that takes it away from them and see how they respond

D&D General Short folk appreciation thread – what do you play?

Forest Gnomes - specifically Forest not Tinkers, I like that they are a clever magically inclined species who are not optimised for combat. I imagine them as fey-[ike combination of Smurfs and the Nac Mac Feegle of Discworld and as fey I do like tying them to Spriggans, Jermlaines, Brownies...

D&D General Mechanics of starting a combat & ending a combat

I'd just give bonus Resolve +1 for monsters being in their lairs and maybe let them spend resolve to trigger traps and similar 'lair effects'. I also think that using this system would require the whole notion of XP for killing monsters to be replaced with a broader XP for overcoming challenges...

D&D General Mechanics of starting a combat & ending a combat

I really like this it gets a better framework for Inspiration (Superiority) and Resolve makes Morale an active narrative tool tied to enemy motivation not GM fiat. I really like that it encourages the players to make those tactical decisions to gain superiority rather than just targeting HP and...

Marvel Television’s Wonder Man | Official Trailer

I do like that this is a self-deprecating response to notions of Super Hero fatigue and that Damage Control is getting a bit more exposure.

Homebrew Keep on the North West Borderlands

Anyone remember Eerie, Indiana (NBC) which was a similarly town of weirdness vibe and featured a couple of kids on bikes too. It was filmed between Santa Clarita and Toronto.

D&D General Revisiting the Red Box.

yeah Adventurer meeting Aleena, encountering Bargle and then being chased out by ghouls is my first memory of actual DnD 'play'. The whole package with BEC was a perfect introduction to what the game could be.

Homebrew Keep on the North West Borderlands

Van Helsing (Syfy) was set in post apocalyptic Seattle, but mostly filmed in BC. CW Sabrina and Riverdale too (even though theyre suppose to be New York) Buffy is definitely Southern California though, shes a Valley girl
