D&D General Favorite Creepy Monster To Run?

I'd take inspiration from the Batman villain, give it a 20ft Spore Cloud attack (DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened), the ability to Disappear into fog, becoming heavily obscured and moving freely (no opportunity attacks), and a nightmare image illusion causing psychic damage oh and a...

    D&D General What's your view on a pirate-driven campaign?

English raiding of Hanseatic shipping on the Flemish and Baltic coast was rampant, in the 1400s and through the Hundred Years War. as was piracy in the Mediteranean. For DnD I have no problem with ships having access to Greek Alchemist fire, chinese rockets, primitive cannons, achimedes solar...

Christmas Songs from the Southern Hemisphere

Fair enough, but all this make it on to Christmas Albums and even televised via Christmas in the Park events. The whole Christmas song industry is pretty niche

Christmas Songs from the Southern Hemisphere

yeah Christmas where the gum trees grow has a whole verse calling that out "From England came our Christmas fare They even said what Santa should wear But here down under for summer’s cool Santa should dip in a swimming pool"

Christmas Songs from the Southern Hemisphere

a man named Pukunui should know Pukeko in a Punga Tree! Mele Kalikimaka was once kinda popular (though Bing and the Andrew Sisters are a bit dated now ) Aotearoa New Zealand Christmas in New Zealand - "the time is right for barbecues and swimming across the bay" country singer Dennis Marsh...

D&D 5E (2024) There is sauerkraut in my lederhosen: Snarf's Guide to Using (and adjudicating) Skills in 5e

Not even that. I think they should broaden Backgrounds and have all Backgrounds grant a Lore Skill and a Professional (Technique) Skill. So if someone has Horse Breeder Background that automatically get the Lore (Nature) and Profession (Animal Handling) if they're a Healer they get Healing...

D&D General Where to start with Mystara?

Croatians are Slavic living in the Balkan Peninsula and indeed had a Byzantine ruling class = so Dubrovnik fits well But yeah Ylaruam was mostly Arabic, but Turko-Persian makes a better geographic fit

D&D General Where to start with Mystara?

The Vaults of Pandius has an adventure where you get to Save Aleena (you get her resurrected) and Castle Mistamere allows you to track Bargle down for revenge or justice. The thing I always loved about Karameikos was that it had a strong Eastern European (Slavic/Balkan) feel to its culture...

AD&D 2E Can anyone give me a rundown on Red Steel and other obscure D&D settings not mentioned in this video?

Red Steel was a subsetting of Mystara set on a distant continent (the Savage Coast) reminiscent of colonial South America (and the colonial Baronies even have a Spanish theme) but with furry races (rakasta, lupins, tortles, aranea) and arquebuses. The titular red steel was a magical metal and a...

D&D General Favorite Creepy Monster To Run?

The party moves through the skeletal remains of an abandoned village, fog curling around the shattered huts. A faint scuttling sound echoes from the shadows—soft, irregular, like claws on broken timber. Something watches. Something waits... A whispering giggle curls through the darkness...

D&D General Where to start with Mystara?

B1-9: In Search of Adventure is the 'best' parts of the first 9 Basic adventures and framed as 3 adventure paths in the Grand Duchy of Karameikos (it even has a helpful Adventure Flowchart) The Veiled Society is set in Specularum, the capital of Karameikos wherein the PCs investigate a murder...

Would you purchase an expansion, from a different system than you use, to adapt for your preferred system? If yes why?

Wow, I havent looked at that book in years, but indeed it was an absolutely treasure with its variety and scope.

    Harvest Festivals

I use to do an annual Wassailing of the Apple Orchards in my 'Spooky England' inspired game, which involved a market, groups going around the orchards wassailing the corps, and seeking boons from the local Baron, and a parade lead by a young woman elected 'Cider Queen'. Over the years the...

Would you purchase an expansion, from a different system than you use, to adapt for your preferred system? If yes why?

You mean like buying The Enemy Within Campaign but adapting it to DnD rules? Or cherry picking the Ars Magica Spell System? I also got the Duty and Honor Napoleonic RPG - which inspired me to run Gothic 17/18th Century Military Campaign (Flanders during the War of Spanish Succession) using D20.

D&D 5E (2024) Feywild technically doesn't mention the Seelie and Unseelie Court

IMC I have a Unseelie Spring Hag "Nanny Blossomthaw" The Mother of Renewal, the Spring Thaw, the Petal Crone. She represents the Spring thaw. When the Cailleach lays down her mantle of frost and the snows retreat, the earth awakens to the melting ice and the muddy soil drinks deeply of decay...

    D&D 5E (2024) Rank 5e skills from most useful (1) to least useful (18)

its far easier to put manacles on the hands of someone you're grappling than it is to try and throw a lasoo over there heads at range most replaceable, really? as compared to Stealth v Pass Without Trace, SoH v Knock, or Charm v Persuasion?

    D&D 5E (2024) Rank 5e skills from most useful (1) to least useful (18)

yeah the game rules for tying someone up are all rubbish really personally I just make it a follow up grapple check on a grappled opponent using either Str or Dex, whatever they roll becomes the escape DC.
