    General video game discussion

I did not want to start a whole thread for this weird question, so... Are there any folks on YouTube who make video game playthroughs as highly edited "movies" or "shows"? Like, if I want to watch someone play Skyrim but it is a STORY, not just a let's play, does that exist?

Thank you. For clarity, I am very well acquainted with running con games.

Help Me Pick A Convention Game To Run

I ultimately decided on the following (blurb first draft): Being a Crook in Bastion City is hard, between the Capes looking to get the cuffs on you and the Kingpins looking to get their hooks in you. But there are banks to rob and art to steal, and you have your trusty super-tech to make it...

    D&D 5E (2024) Carousing in 5E

You seem to be missing the point of the carousing system. it is explicitly there to eat gold so that the characters have motivation to continue to adventure. In Shadowdark, the "payment" for that is a minor XP boost. It is genre enforcement.

    Dumb Game Ideas: Mash-Ups

We aren't talking about role, we are talking about power source and genre. Sure, it is all "fantastical" but that doesn't make the genre "fantasy" unless you use a definition so broad it is useless. That is like when people call Star Trek a 'fantasy." That's true, but tells you nothing about...

    Dumb Game Ideas: Mash-Ups

I am not sure that is quite right. There are, of course, superhero genre stories where not everything goes (The Boys, for example), but superhero universes like Marvel or DC are multi-genre settings where fantasy, space opera, horror, post-humanity, technothriller, etc.. all interact. When some...

    D&D 5E (2024) Carousing in 5E

Tales of the Valiant by Kobold Press. ToV is a 5E compatible game. From the Black Flag SRD: LUCK Every PC has a special resource called Luck. You use Luck to influence the result of any check. GAINING LUCK W hen you create your character, start with 0 Luck. You gain Luck in the following ways...

    D&D 5E (2024) Carousing in 5E

Maybe something more granular than Inspiration and incorporate the Luck rules from ToV? Alternatively, you can include the possibility of minor magic items like healing potions or weapon oils or whatever.

Let's Talk About Supers RPGs (Especially Ones Good For Cons)

Oh, sure, I was just responding to @Micah Sweet regarding 2E vs 3E broadly. I think I want to use the new Marvel Multiverse game, mostly because it reads pretty good and it gives me an excuse to try a new supers RPG -- which are the best kinds of RPGs. Always.

Let's Talk About Supers RPGs (Especially Ones Good For Cons)

I had a long running supers campaign (mostly old school Champions players) that transitioned from 2E to 3E and many of them were frustrated with the limitations on building characters. I don't think it is a problem for most players, but these guys were tinkerers.

Let's Talk About Supers RPGs (Especially Ones Good For Cons)

Character generation in 2E (especially with the Ultimate Power book) is significantly more robust.

Let's Talk About Supers RPGs (Especially Ones Good For Cons)

I finally landed on the game series I want to run for RPGCon in Marlborough MA in April: C list supervillains (something like the Flash's Rogues Gallery) just trying to score, while avoiding both superheroes and the higher tier villains trying to force them into their diabolical plans. These...

D&D General Hope and Fear In D&D

Instead of having x per short rest, you just pay a hope to use it. That's probably too general a rule because some short rest abilities are more powerful than others. If you are using DH's spotlight rules instead of D&D's initiative system, I don't think that works. The problem with Hope in...

D&D General Hope and Fear In D&D

So if you wanted to use Hope and Fear in D&D, what about powering short rest abilities with Hope and using fear to power monster recharge abilities plus the usual initiative thing? Would 5E mostly as written work with Daggerheart's initiative/spotlight system?
