5E: Fifth Edition Monsters Inspired by Third Edition Sources

For the 5E conversion, I suppose we could start with the Giant Horsefly and modify it to taste. Come to think of it, we should be converting these in the 5E: Monstrous Arthropods for Fifth Edition thread. Will move the discussion over there.

Completed Creatures Index & Current Conversions

The Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting version has a lot of differences to the 2E AD&D original. So many in fact I'm tempted doing a homebrew conversion now. Oh, the FRCS stats are 3.0. If you include the 3.5 Update it becomes: Pack Lizard Large Animal Hit Dice: 8d8+40 (76 hp) Initiative: +1...

5E: Fifth Edition Monsters Inspired by Third Edition Sources

There's four different AD&D giant mosquitos plus a separate entry for giant mosquito larvae. The female Anopheles and Culex giant mosquitos could be CR 3 in a Fifth Edition conversion, and I don't think the original stats are different enough to justify converting them separately.

5E: Fifth Edition Monster Variants Inspired by Fourth Edition Sources

Yeah, I'd do the Blood Mist next. Was thinking we should aim for around Challenge 3.

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Well we could start on that Dao Goldmaster idea.

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Goodie! Updated the Efreeti Firelord Working Draft. So I think this boy's good for release now, right. What would you like to work on next?

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Okay, there's a bunch of minor problems, but most of them originated in my Enworld version. Oops! The firelord's other action & trait descriptions italicize an effect when referring to it, so to be consistent it should be:  Note: Being on fire does not stack. A creature that has caught fire...

Special Conversion Thread: Lycanthropes and their ilk

Er… yes? I said "with 16 dragon hit dice" in the example. No, I meant to use the sum of racial Hit Dice from the base dragon and base creature, same as we did with the Breath Weapon special attack. I'd be OK using total hit dice instead, since there's a precedent in Templates that use a...

    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

Will remove the magenta question in the next update. Putting ranks in Jump is unnecessary. The original flavour text says they "sometimes making leaps as great as 10 feet in distance and clearing over 6 feet in height." A 6 foot High Jump has a 24 Jump DC, so I gave the Greater Fachan a +10...

Converting original D&D and Mystara monsters

We can apply a range limit to the circumstance bonus to honour the "may be detected as far as 100’ downwind" in the original description.

Converting original D&D and Mystara monsters

Yup, will remove the magenta question in the next update. It doesn't seem that complicated. "Once in a net, a captive is wholly disabled" could just mean a creature stunned by a bielgorad's crook and transferred into a net becomes stunned and helpless as long as they remain entangled by the...

    Kraken Variants

Huh? We should only rename it if the ability works differently from standard Trample. Doing a bit more damage than an average Trample isn't different enough to justify that. There are plenty of monsters whose trample does more than the default of "the creature's slam damage + 1½ times its Str...

    Converting True Dragons

Y'okay. Let's see… The half rank ones would come to 26×6 and 27×6 if we divided them evenly, but I think instead I'll put 25 ranks in each, since it's the minimum for a +4 synergy bonus. That leaves 18 ranks, so I'll put 16 ranks in Hide to cancel the Colossal size penalty and the leftover 2...

    Converting Planescape monsters

I've updated the Decaton Working Draft with some of the stuff from the Wizards sources. The AD&D versions of the Decaton could only use their healing spell-like abilities on other modrons, but for some reason the official 3.0 version could use its heal, healing circle, remove disease and remove...

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

So, getting back on track what shall we do about the Dark Dweller's Strength score? I'm not that keen on giving it Titan level strength since that'll give it an equally titanic attack and damage bonus. So how about we give it a racial bonus to grapple checks so its grapple bonus is roughly the...

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

Just noticed a very minor formatting error in Valgoss Working Draft. The Worm Lord's 5th-level spell lines ended with a ";" semi-colon when they should end in "." period. It's been fixed in the Working Draft and the correction will appear in the next CC Download update.

I like the Return of the Modrons versions better than the 3.0 Manual of the Planes ones as well. Guess we're statting up a Decaton then!

    Converting Oriental Adventures creatures

So change it to Monstrous Beetle Swarm? That works for me. Just calling them carnivorous beetles is too generic for my tastes, plus it makes clear they aren't regular meat-eating beetles. Updating Monstrous Beetle Swarm Working Draft and Carnivorous Monstrous Beetle Swarm Working Draft So...
