    D&D 5E (2024) Toward a Theory of 6th Edition

A while back, I played around with a B/X variant that tied attributes generation to class. For example, a Fighter might roll 2d6+6 for Strength, and 3d6 for Intelligence, while a Magic User was the reverse. So you'd still have the randomness of sometimes having a Fighter with a weirdly low prime...

D&D 5E (2014) Survival and Exhaustion in ToA: need a good house rule.

What if, due to the extreme conditions, they had a minimum exhaustion level of 1 unless they spend a Hit Die during a long rest? So any time they need to make sure they're not exhausted they will spend a resource, and I (as usual) would suggest being generous with inspiration so that they have a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Optimum and/or Fun Party of 6 for ToA?

That sounds cool in and of itself (the roleplaying). And better to be OP at the start than overwhelmed.

    D&D 5E (2014) Optimum and/or Fun Party of 6 for ToA?

So how did the game go?

    D&D 5E (2014) Optimum and/or Fun Party of 6 for ToA?

Fun? A group of sentient self-aware iron golems. Bonus points if they can join together to form one mega-golem. Bonus bonus points if you can get one of the kids to unironically say "I'll form the head!". But, yeah, Nature Cleric sounds cool too.

New Errata & Sage Advice Compendium (Sleep & Trance Are Fixed!)

I really am truly confused by the issue. A character (race unspecific) must sleep for 6 hours or more to get a long rest. An elf that trances counts as having slept for eight hours. Thus, the elf has received a long rest. In a group with other races, the free time (i.e. the extra time that the...

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone Using Adventures in Middle Earth Journey/Rest Rules in Regular 5e Game?

Yeah, some of the Journey Events can be resolved fairly quickly... the Hunter(s) see a chance to bag a big one... you can set that up quickly and then it's resolved with a roll and either good stuff happens (big meal with leftovers for later) or bad stuff (wasted time and effort and you've got...

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone Using Adventures in Middle Earth Journey/Rest Rules in Regular 5e Game?

LOL. Of course, the actual rules do allow the Loremaster to let the heroes get a long rest whenever they have reasonable safety. So if you feel safe in the middle of a barbarian horde, you can take a long rest.

D&D 5E (2014) Is there an adventure for this map?

Sounds like a great chance to roll your own.

    Psi-tech

Part of the theme of the adventures is that Psi-tech is pretty much a lost technology, even for the Virosa. And if you wanted the characters to research a new device, I would probably treat that a bit differently than mass producing a particular device. You'd probably want an engineer and a...

D&D comes to Middle Earth (from Cubicle 7)

I've often said that the Shadow system is the best 'alignment' system that I've ever seen. Just personal opinion, but I love the feel that it creates.

My first trip to a FLGS in years: State of the Hobby?

Well, the tricky bit about all of that is that there's a lot more gaming out there than what you see at the typical FLGS. Between direct order websites, direct-from-the-creator things like Kickstarter, print-on-demand from various places (Lulu et al) and the preponderance of PDFs and tables...

October 2016 Sage Advice & PHB Errata

It seems to me that if you change it to "location where it was cast or the caster's current location" then yuh can have your travelling spellbooks and chests without having your magical grenades.
