    Kaylmba: African inspired RPG

So for now the project will be cancelled. It seems many of them got sick over this period. I hope they have a full recovery soon. The creators are going to regroup on the project and plan to relaunch in February with a lower funding goal and some advertising.

Some concerns about the Avatar: Legends RPG

Now that I've had some sleep, a repost here: ‐--------------------- So I got a chance to play the quickstart adventure of Avatar Legends. The GM was great and the players all contributed well, but I have to say that I had some initial concerns with some of the rules that have only heightened...

Kalymba, Tormenta and regional gaming going international

I don't think Kalymba's failure has anything to do with the system. They have done no advertising. I wrote a post here and on rpg.net. i have contacted them on reddit and on the kickstarter page offering to help promote. They've only given a vague response once. They have only commented on...

D&D 5E (2014) Why I love monsters in The Witcher RPG

I think D&D sits on the fence with this one. D&D however DOES have a very specific setting, and I wish it embraced that. Default options are good for me as you don't have to use the default. And as mentioned many of the things such as typical combat tactics and how many appear (as well as...

D&D 5E (2014) Why I love monsters in The Witcher RPG

Man at arms statted out correctly can be tougher than a witcher. But it's heavily skill based. So even a bard who excels at swordsmanship, they can beat an equally skilled witcher pretty close to 50/50

D&D 5E (2014) Why I love monsters in The Witcher RPG

I posted this on RPG.net but I wanted to see what y'all thought here (for those that aren't in both forums). Mods: please feel free to move this to the general roleplaying group if you feel this is more appropriate...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rolling Without a Chance of Failure (I love it)

One thing that can be fun if you have a good poker face is to give 2 or 3 conflicting bits of information on a failure, only one being true.

    D&D 5E (2014) Rolling Without a Chance of Failure (I love it)

Yes, this is usually called "failing forward" and somewhat related to "success with a cost". I use it sometimes and it's pretty common in more narrative systems. In your lockpicking situation succeeding but having your lockpicks break so they can't be used again is great when the party needs to...

Help, give some recomendations of Dark Fantasy TTRPG

I've been running it for about 2 years. It's not perfect, and not as well balanced as 5e at higher levels, but everything else about it I love. When I think about house ruling D&D to my preferences, I usually start getting something similar to Shadow of the Demon Lord anyway! Not sure what you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rewarding Bad Ideas (Mechanically)

I would second inspiration as a use for PCs getting into trouble for a good purpose. Fate as mentioned works well and it's a simple question of the DM asking what aspect (bond flaw etc) you are using. Allow them to rewrite these per session if they want so they can fit it to the campaign as it...

    Kaylmba: African inspired RPG

A bit more info on the system from the kickstarter FAQ: Kalymba's rules are based on the +2d6, a TTRPG system that's very popular in Brazil for being easy to understand, play and adapt. To play Kalymba, you just need a handful of d6 dice, a character sheet for each player, and Kalymba's core...

    Kaylmba: African inspired RPG

At least the system appears to be well developed. There's little in the way of promotion and explanation of it which I think is one of the real weak points of the campaign.

    Kaylmba: African inspired RPG

Honestly it's just going to come down to value to the purchaser. I love the artwork, and I have so little exposure to african inspired anything that I'm sure I'll get value out of the book just by reading it.

    Kaylmba: African inspired RPG

So it turns out it's a brazilian RPG that was originally produced in 2013. This is an update and translation of it. Core rules are basically 2d6+attribute+skill against a fixed DC, or sometimes opposed. Sounds like it's a fairly light system. And you can buy armour for your hen, so there's...

I disagree. The artwork alone is different to anything I've seen before. But suit yourself of course.

    Kaylmba: African inspired RPG

I haven't seen mention of Kalymba on here so I thought i'd bring it up if anyone's interested. Looks to be an African mythology inspired RPG that seems to have some really cool ideas and great art. I'm not connected, just a backer and I'd like to see it succeed.

D&D 5E (2014) Ed Greenwood is Contributing to A Sourcebook About Thay

This is something I really want. There's really cool mythology in aboriginal australian histories, but as a white Australian, I'm not the one to write it (let alone having no experience!). I think it's a hard market these days to write anything based on a real culture, so for this reason I...

D&D General Do you prefer more or less Skills?

The Witcher TRPG does this. Each monster entry has a common lore DC which reveals some superstitions and general knowledge of the monster in question, and there is a separate paragraph with a Monster Lore DC (which is a witcher class skill) which talks about the creatures typical behaviours...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4e design in 5.5e ?

Thanks to everyone who replied! There's things in 4e that don't sound appealing to me such as several hour long fights at the like, but monster and ritual design sounds like it's my thing. Would a 4e monster book be worth getting for 5e? How easy is conversion between the two additions?
