They will release more than one book in a year. We saw both Forgotten Realms and Eberron playtests back to back for products this year. It isn’t unreasonable to think the Psion and Apocalyptic Subclasses are for Dark Sun while the Arcane Subclasses are for something else.

New Arcane Subclasses Update just dropped. Updates are included for Arcane Archer Fighter, Tattooed Warrior Monk, and all four Wizard subclasses missing for the PHB. After a first read through I love this UA. A huge improvement over the previous takes on these subclasses.

There is also something to be said for avoiding this level of thematic saturation in a given year. If you don’t like Giants, but the big adventure book and the big supplement are both giant themed, you’re basically taking the year off from buying D&D products, and WotC doesn’t want that.

This. The average person would see a group playing Daggerheart and say to themselves “those people are playing D&D.” It’s like how the average movie going audience says “Marvel” for all things superhero now.

Idk what GenCon you went to, but the one I attended this year had full D&D tables throughout all four days. I played at them constantly and it was almost always packed tables. The only time there wasn’t was for the learn to play events from my experience.
