D&D 5E (2014) Power Word: Stun and stunning strike level confusion

I like the psychic damage. I would have went with necrotic, but now that you've said it, psychic makes mire sense.

D&D 5E (2014) Power Word: Stun and stunning strike level confusion

Hm, I don't disagree with that. I also still think that the spell is lacking. Adding that one sentence, from my post here, would vastly improve it.

D&D 5E (2014) Power Word: Stun and stunning strike level confusion

Why a wizard? The way I look at it, how often does a CR 15-20 monster/NPC have 150 hp or more?

D&D 5E (2014) Power Word: Stun and stunning strike level confusion

I can see the (extraordinary) benefit a round of stun would be against a BBEG. However, after reading through the replies, and going through this thread, I have concluded that the power word spells are Not Very Good Spells At All. IMO and all that, of course. Those are the highest-level spells...

D&D 5E (2014) Power Word: Stun and stunning strike level confusion

I was poring over the higher level (6+) spells last night, trying to plan ahead which would make for a good choice for my sorcerer's repertoire, and I stumbled over power word: stun. And I'm a bit confused... monks get stunning strike as an ability at 5th-level. It uses up a ki point, a finite...

D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer class improvement house rule

To be honest, I've been viewing this as beneficial, but nothing to be excited about. In fact, I've so far mostly been forgetting to add the recovered SPs to the total :p

D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer class improvement house rule

FWIW, I've been playing a storm sorcerer for close to 10 levels now (i.e. the character is a single-classed half-elf storm sorcerer 9, going on 10). We use the following modifications to the base class: Spell points. We also merge sorcery points and spell points into a single pool. This...

D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Rising from the Last War Previews

Before you said halfling, I was certain the alchemist was a dwarf... based on the new cover image, I thought Eberron halflings would be more proportional. [Edit: You already covered the dwarwishness of the alleged halfling... mental note to self: don't post before you read the whole thread]

D&D 5E (2014) Deep Dive into Descent Into Avernus

We're in a nautical-themed campaign, 9th level now (started at 3rd, IIRC), and we're constantly running out of cash... ship repairs & upgrades, crew wages (especially crew wages!), etc. are eating almost all of our hard-plundered wealth... Just as an example of how the worth of gold can depend...

D&D 5E (2014) New Eberron Book Details From WotC

While I'm pretty much neutral on the cover topic, I really really appreciate that, at least in Eberron, we're done with oversized-head halflings.

D&D 5E (2014) Additional Minor Magic Item Properties

Found out what I was looking for. Turns out I've been thinking of common magic items in Xanathar's Guide, and I just misremembered the page formatting... 😊

    D&D General Kobolds

No, nothing so funny 😁 IIRC, the description said they had four insect-like limbs or somesuch, and the artist got the impression they had four arms instead 🙂

    D&D General Kobolds

I seem to remember them being described as lizard-likenin 1e/2e, but yipped like dogs (as others mentioned), and also smelled like wet dogs... I expect that's where the artists drew dogginess from. That's how those lesser yugoloths (can't remember the name) got their extra pair of hands in 3e...

D&D 5E (2014) Additional Minor Magic Item Properties

I'm looking at the minor magic item properties on p. 143 of the DMG, and I seem to remember a longer list being released by the WotC at some point, as a pdf. I though it might have been an Unearthed Arcana article, but I can't find it in the archives (I remember it as the plain black-on-white...

D&D 5E (2014) Ship to Ship Crew Combat Options

We're in a nautical/pirate-themed campaign right now, and our DM has a number of house-rules for naval combat. He devised a system in which naval combat is run separate from standard combat, and uses naval rounds. You basically get three naval actions per naval round (it's more complicated than...

D&D 5E (2014) Using Spell Point Variant Rule?

I'm playing an 8th-level sorcerer in a campaign, using spell points. Unlike ScuroNotte, however, we pool spell points and sorcery points together. It has provided some versatility to the sorcerer, but it doesn't feel as a significant power-boost to the class. We switched to spell points when the...

    (Yet another) Improved familiar feat

Thanks for the comments! As currently written, the chainlock could take this feat at 4th level. But, using a feat to improve your familiar might be a fair trade-off for skipping either the ability score increase or the benefits the character could directly gain by taking another feat.

    (Yet another) Improved familiar feat

Greetings! For various reasons, I've decided to give the Improved familiar feat a go. The general idea behind the feat was to both give the access to the familiar to spellcasting classes other than warlock and wizard, and to boost the familiar to more closely resemble the familiars of previous...

    Tiefling Hexblade

You can always reflavour it. In the campaign I'm currently playing in, we've got an aasimar celestial "hexblade", where all her powers were changed to similar, but more celestial-appropriate ones. Her 6th-level spectre ability brings a good-aligned spirit, and her necrotic damage is changed to...
