D&D 5E (2014) Concentration spells over 10 minutes can be a pain in the a**

The S&B fighter is without shield master is doing 85% damage of a shield master fighter due to prone. Prone also helps allies hit by a significant margin. The end result is the fighter is giving up significant DPR and other ways of helping his party to boost the rogue's damage. That is not the...

D&D 5E (2014) Concentration spells over 10 minutes can be a pain in the a**

Ah, right, my mistake. So the Fighter is giving up a bunch of DPR (from either PAM, GWM, S&B trip, or god forbid TWF) to give the rogue a second attack. That shouldn't really count as the rogue > ranger. That's more of the fighter sacrificing damage to give the rogue more damage.

D&D 5E (2014) Concentration spells over 10 minutes can be a pain in the a**

A battlemaster cannot enable a rogue to get 2 sneak attacks per round unless you have houseruled something (broken). The main way for a rogue to get 2 sneak attacks is hope for an OA or get hasted and ready an action on the off turn and attack on this turn. Matchematically this should present...

Psionics: Psion and 211 powers converted from Pathfinder

I did misread and assumed you were going along with @Xohar17's suggestion of exhaustion. I like the hard restriction version as well as, as you pointed out, exhaustion can be removed (though that does further the cost). I'll use your wording. "Powers that you manifest using 9 or more psi points...

Psionics: Psion and 211 powers converted from Pathfinder

You're right, conjure spells are 1 minute. I will change the Astral Construct to match. You're right that the elemental can turn hostile, but that's only true for the Conjure Elemental spell. Conjure Fey (6th level spell) summons friendly beasts of Challenge 6. With Conjure Fey I can summon a...

Psionics: Psion and 211 powers converted from Pathfinder

Quick note: Astral Construct should be up to 1 hour like the other conjure spells. I had it there before, but it somehow got reverted. The HP and damage values line up with the expected values of monsters based on Challenge rating. If you compare the 5th level astral construct to the Conjure...

Psionics: Psion and 211 powers converted from Pathfinder

5 points is equivalent to a 3rd level spell. So at 20th level a Seer can reroll by expending a 3rd level power. Second Chance is a 6th level power (9 psi points) that can do it on a reaction. So this basically removes the limit of 6th level power limits from second chance. Not 100% sure if...

Psionics: Psion and 211 powers converted from Pathfinder

Spending psi points based on the unmodified roll isn't very 5e friendly. Let's try a different approach: "At 20th level, your ability to foresee the different possibilities has suffused you. When you roll an ability check, attack roll, or saving throw, you can choose to reroll the die and must...

Psionics: Psion and 211 powers converted from Pathfinder

Question on psi points for higher level powers. I added this wording yesterday: I think tracking each individual slot level equivalent would be too much do I came up with the overall limit. It progresses at the same rate as spells, but all of them could be used for 9th level powers when a psion...

Psionics: Psion and 211 powers converted from Pathfinder

The arcane focus has be removed. My mistake. For a bit I had a manifesting focus which was a crystal, but that really doesn't make flavor sense nor do it fit with the power displays.

D&D 5E (2014) Concentration spells over 10 minutes can be a pain in the a**

Hex is in the same boat as hunter's mark. Warlock does about 15% of the HP of an equivalent level monster at most levels up until level 17. That's including Hex. A Fighter is doing around 25%. A Ranger is doing about 20%. Hex having concentration isn't needed for balance and it just heavily...

D&D 5E (2014) Concentration spells over 10 minutes can be a pain in the a**

I'm not seeing how the choices they made are arbitrary. The line seems to be "Is this too strong when combined with another strong buff or continuous damage spell? If so then it's concentration" What you're asking for is an outright buff to all casters which would cause much mechanical...

Psionics: Psion and 211 powers converted from Pathfinder

Ok, I've had enough. Rant post: Your posts are laced with condescension and I'm tired of it. You have literally chosen the worst possible power to compare. It is complicated because it has to handle transparency between psionics and magic as well as slots and psi points. If I wrote it with just...

Psionics: Psion and 211 powers converted from Pathfinder

Thanks for weighing in. I'm sure it'll be a personal choice as people are all coming from different editions with different versions of psionics and different expectations. For myself I think the points is pretty essential. Early on I did weigh converting them to the spell schools and reducing...

D&D 5E (2014) Concentration spells over 10 minutes can be a pain in the a**

Allowing stacking of buffs like fly or polymorph in addition to other buffs that are concentration would be a return to the pre-battle buff syndrome vof 3.X. I wouldn't want that. I think part of the issue you're expressing is a desire for concentration to be a battle of wills more than just...

Psionics: Psion and 211 powers converted from Pathfinder

Fyi I moved Psicrystal to a power: "Meld Psicrystal". Very similar to before which was very similar to find familiar. I forgot to put it in the list of powers when I formatted so for now it's at the end of the list of powers (it takes a while to reformat). As @Stunning Serendipity recommended...

Spells that could be improved / better designed

Fail. Thanks for overlooking my note taking incompetence! Agreed it could probably do more and be fine. I chose 14d8 as it was in line with the other 8th level spells, but that sample size is incredibly small so it's hard to gauge how accurate it is. Though the average for 7th level spells as...

Spells that could be improved / better designed

Ah, there it is! Yes, by my Spell Balance calculations Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting is a horrible spell and needs to deal 14d8, not 7d8, to be competitive with the level it is at.

I know of no spell by the name "Horrid Wilting" - I don't see it in the PHB or EE. Perhaps I've missed it?
