D&D 5E (2014) MM: How many high levels monsters have some form of magic resistance?

I have no experience playing those levels, but I admit that this list is a bit unsettling.

    D&D 5E (2014) Likes and Dislikes?

He and I are saying the same thing I guess. What's humorous about that?

How would you feel if your DM did that at your table?

    D&D 5E (2014) Likes and Dislikes?

I like the old school feel with a somewhat balanced rules system. I dislike that balance between classes and damage output remains somewhat of a target. For example, having overpowered high level wizards is not a problem in my mind. And having fighters deal as much damage on average than...

D&D 5E (2014) What technology do you own that you are willing to bring to the table?

I voted "none of the above", because I actually bring a laptop, but only to control musical background. The screen is hidden even from me, and one in a while I turn around towards the screen to change/remove/add music. I dislike screens on the table, whether they be directed towards the DM or...

D&D 5E (2014) [Rules Question] Opportunity Attacks and Total Cover

I think none of the PCs should get an OA. First, the xorn has earth glide. He doesn't burrow. He glides into the earth unimpeded - at least, this is how I understand his power: it has the same "burrow" speed as its base speed, and gliding into earth or stone doesn't cause the earth or stone to...

D&D 5E (2014) Kicked off my 5e campaign last night!

Interesting ideas. What did the PCs help the humans they initially took for bandits? They don't seem like the helping kind given their alignments.

D&D 5E (2014) Woo Hoo, Invisibility Stopped It's Downward Spiral

The real question is: can you eat spaghetti while invisible? There is no specific rule against it, but there is no rule supporting it. Thus, I am totally in the dark. Which begs the sub-question: when does the noodle being slurped in become invisible? When it touches the PC's lips? Halfway...

Dragonlance Setting up a Dragonlance Campaign.

5E allows you to multiclass easily. Let one or two players pick up classes for their clerics after level 1. Without asking players to do this, you can have the cleric class appeal to them by making a cleric look interesting story-wise. I'm thinking, for example, that a magic item might exist...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sell me on Wizards

Wizards are wizards man! Spellbooks, familiars, fireballs and all that cool stuff! They'll put the seed of fear into men's hearts, because who doesn't fea magic? Don't let numbers or other such mundane things deter you from playing the class you want to play. Play the wizard, and make him...

    D&D 5E (2014) Elves, Wizards, Sorcerers, Charisma

Your idea is as good as any. If you feel that your game would be interesting with it implemented, go ahead and do it!

    D&D 5E (2014) Can you see when you're Blinded?

I can't talk for others, but I, for one, assume that the group didn't think that the blinded rogue could actually see; they were contending that the blind rogue could move and act without penalty. Which makes no more sense. I know it might not be written in the PHB that you can't actually act...

    D&D 5E (2014) Can you see when you're Blinded?

Lol! This post pushes the stereotype of dumb-rules-lawyering players further down the dumb-rules-lawyering road.

D&D 5E (2014) The Pendulum: Player Entitlement & DM Empowerment

"my game, my table, my rules" reminds me of something that is a guide to me. Being the owner of my company, I believe that leadership should never exist because I say "I'm the boss" (or as a DM, I never need to state: "my game, my table, my rules"). Leadership should exist because people accept...

House rule for overnight healing: opinions wanted

This is an interesting thread. My impression is that the result is really dependent on the type of game you'll be playing. If your game typically includes many fights per day, several days in a row, then your house rule will gradually put more pressure on the cleric(s) to heal the party and/or...

D&D 5E (2014) The Pendulum: Player Entitlement & DM Empowerment

I have no problem with DM empowerment. It allows me to bloat my ego to the size of a Jupiter moon and hit my players with ludicrous arbitrary in-game decisions that solely aim at humilitating the player himself through his PC being dragged in the mud.

D&D 5E (2014) Can a character tell when they are in danger of drawing an Opportunity Attack, notably in regards to Sentinel & Polearm Master?

I think a character can't tell, but when he rushes towards an opponent with reach, he should know that it's a possibility. As for disengaging from a fighter or other creature with a special power, I think that the surprise is part of it. This means that, for PCs, I wont hint at the fact that...

D&D 5E (2014) Polearm Master feat: very good?

Played a one-shot last weekend, and one PC had the Polearm Master feat. This feat provides two advantages: 1) you get to make one extra attack dealing 1d4+ABILITY (STR) modifier as a bonus action 2) other creatures that enter the PC's reach provoke an OA Granted, we played in a game where...

D&D 5E (2014) Encounter difficulty: how to fix it.

Interesting stuff. Back in the old AD&D days, where monsters had a level scaling from I to X (in roman numbering, mind you!), there were no encounter building rules. You had to follow your gut feeling. I plan on trying to do just that in a conscious effort to move away from a math-oriented...
