    D&D 5E (2014) Armor: damage reduction

What would be the consequence of introducing the following additional rule concerning armor (that otherwise work as in the PHB): Light armor: damage reduction 1 vs percing, slashing and bludgeonning weapons Medium armor: damage reduction 2 vs percing, slashing and bludgeonning weapons; and all...

D&D 5E (2014) Was it too much? Dealing with TPKs and more

Them having all been killed in short order allows for a story twist that you might conjure up. Think about the following (that I read in more than one place): they end up in hell, and need to buy or figtht their way out. Or, perhaps a devil has a deal to offer. Really: 1) don't feel bad about...

    D&D 5E (2014) Removing save-each-turn mechanic

Prism and Sacrosanct, would you support bumping the spells one level up, or would you leave the spell level unchanged?

    D&D 5E (2014) Removing save-each-turn mechanic

I assume you mean battle scene and not gaming session, unless your battle scenes usually last for an entire gaming session? This is not the case for me. Like I said, I think that the likelihood of PCs remaining paralyzed for an entire battle scene are very low. We used to play AD&D where Hold...

D&D 5E (2014) Feat at 1st Level: How To Go About It?

Wait, Paul plays the rogue and Peter has high perception. I'd recommend paying Peter his due and attacking Paul while he sleeps.

    D&D 5E (2014) Pulling your punches

I think that using a lethal weapon to deal non-lethal damage is like improvising a weapon. The sword deals 1d8 damage because it can cut you. I don't think it should deal that amount of damage if you're trying to hit someone with the flat of your sword, which requires to be careful in the way...

    D&D 5E (2014) Removing save-each-turn mechanic

To clarify something, since I have another thread running on my musings on concentration house rules, I doubt that I would change concentration rules if I removed the save-each-round mechanic. Of course, casters would become targets. But, you know.. that's kind of the tradeoff here :) I note...

    D&D 5E (2014) Removing save-each-turn mechanic

One question I want feedback on is : "in particular, do you find that those spells would be relatively balanced compared to other spells of their new level?" Namely, spells that are one level higher but become single save spells. People seem incredulous at the mere fact that I'm contemplating...

D&D 5E (2014) Ditching concentration - did you do it?

I'm not a mod, but I'd appreciate that those having personal grievances towards one another as a result of the herein argument, take their discussion to a private forum. Please. Thank you.

    D&D 5E (2014) OotA Ranger Favored Terrain

I would not punish the player for having the right tool. Let him shine! It's like punishing a cleric for having Turn Undead by limiting or nerfing its use, in an undead-themed campaign. Can't do that, IMHO.

    D&D 5E (2014) Removing save-each-turn mechanic

I'm still toying with spellcasting houserules - per a few other threads I posted here, the feedback of which having been, honestly, quite simply great. As part of a few houserules that I'm considering (you can see my variant spellcasting thread if you want details), I was initially thinking...

D&D 5E (2014) Ditching concentration - did you do it?

The point that I bolded is also kind of amusing don't you think :) Cheers to the joys of RPGs where people debate what realism is all about in a game where the roll of a d20 decides between life and death! :)

D&D 5E (2014) Ditching concentration - did you do it?

I dot not wish to argue your point, but simply to mention that the expression "single target crowd control" is somewhat amusing :)

    D&D 5E (2014) Variant spellcasting

Great input here, as always. Creative people frequent these boards, I say! I actually really like the idea of allowing quicker access to the school specializations. I also like them a lot - very flavorful. This is probably what I'll do. As for sorcerers... I'm not sure about the rune powers...

    D&D 5E (2014) Variant spellcasting

I've edited my above post to remove from the wizard's modifications, that they would not require concentration to maintain a spell because it seems like too much to give them. I also moved the additional damage option from wizards to all classes. I'd still like to get something of a Oomph for...

D&D 5E (2014) Ditching concentration - did you do it?

Hmm, ditching concentration might be too big a step with regards to what I'm trying to achieve. I was curious to see if some people did it, but apparently not?

    D&D 5E (2014) Spelless 5E paladin - have you played one?

Interesting options, thanks to all. I've actually started working a bit on the paladin, but some ideas from above are likely to creep into my redesign. I made Divine Smite a once-per-short-rest ability, that increases in power every 3-4 levels or so. Conjuring the steed is a daily power. You...

D&D 5E (2014) Ditching concentration - did you do it?

Thank you for your reply. Do you wish to expand on this a bit? Ditching concentration (possibly for wizards only) is indeed part of a roster that includes a few house rules i'm contemplating. This said, I'm curious what people did and what mitigating measures they used, if any, in their games.

    D&D 5E (2014) Variant spellcasting

Thank you to everyone who participated in this thread on limiting number of cantrips. Cool stuff. I'm now looking at implementing the following roster of house rules to spellcasting. I know this won't jive with many of you, and it's fine. I'm mainly looking for constructive feedback on these...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spelless 5E paladin - have you played one?

I'm considering a bunch of house rules to fit a certain flavor I'm looking to achieve, and I like the constructive feedback I can get on this forum regarding most of them. Now, I'm considering a spelless paladin class. I recognize that many players here would not like such a house rule...
