    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Everything Xanathar

Truenames are sources of great power over those creatures, contained mystical tomes. They should be adventures of them selves. Of course said demon or devil would attempt to kill or enslave anyone with such knowledge, and it’s enemies would attempt to extract such infomation at all costs.

Is there a monster/foe which eats magic items or spells?

The old Nightwalkers IIRC correctly just grabbed magic weapons and destroyed them as its attack routine.

Is there a monster/foe which eats magic items or spells?

Manticores in literature and legend can eat and will eat anything, including magic items. They leave nothing to even resurrect a victim. More info in Dragon Magazine 266

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Everything Xanathar

Now that’s a different issue and as a parting gift it’s great. A demon is a chaotic creature so would surly sell out another demon. Likewise but different, devils are lawful creatures but always trying to climb the ladder, selling out a rival is certainly something it would consider trying.

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Everything Xanathar

I saw this and I would say no to the CHR check to get the true name of the devil. True names of creatures such as devils have always been closely guarded secrets, so important that to me even a suggestion spell would fail as it is obviously harmful to the creature. If you asked the true name...

The XP thresholds need to be adapted since XP in 5e is lower. Actually I think I would use milestones to ramp up the weapons. Since you are putting yourself into the weapon I think I would make it intelligent from the get go, make it some reflection of your Id.

This works also. It could also level up when you kill a certain creature. Another neat way is for the sword to be intelligent from the get go, but not have all its power available except for the voice inside the sword that constantly harangues the PC. A wise mentor doesn’t have to quiet or...

Look online for dragon magazine issue 292 article “Level up your long sword “. You basically give PC xp to the weapon, putting yourself into it.

D&D 5E (2014) Long or short rests? What is better?

It has a lot of good points to it. I thought the surge system worked well, especially when you could up surge value without changing your total HP, upping your recovery rate. I do use a similar system in that healing potions use your Hit Die size (allowing durable feat to work) and your Con...

Goodman Games To Resurrect The Isle of Dread

All the adventures with hexcrawls only account for the PCs having just a few encounters and gaining a modicum of experience. If you have the hexcrawlers have many encounters and treasures they will have XP then planned by adventures. In the first reboot of this, Savage Tide, our group gained...

Goodman Games To Resurrect The Isle of Dread

Hexcrawl is fine BUT the DM needs to fully prepare it and be ready for the PCs to over-level for the rest of the game. No one minds hexcrawl as long as something is going on, so it should be filled with monsters, treasures, exotics like fauna that increases ability scores or makes potions...

There is no good old days unless you are talking about segments.

    Missing Rules

The above is the goal. Actually I think the rules should be easy enough that the players know them and can use them preparing for their turn and don’t have to ask for a ruling so they can go quickly

    Missing Rules

IMO its just absurd that 18' jump has no chance of failure whatsoever and can always be done but 20' is a DC 20 which is %60 chance of failure (8th level to get to 20 Str and then +3 proficiency IIRC.) Every inch is %2.5 chance of failure, that scales way to fast. You shouldn't be able to...

    Celestial Patron Warlock, Blade Pact

Shields also come in a type used by those in a phalanx. The Shield has a strap for your neck, and then would have a strap for your left forearm as phalanx’s were always “right-handed.” Essentially you are making a quarter staff a blunt spear. My argument (and in my game) to use PAM you have...

Thoughts on a Shillelagh Magic Item for a Cleric

Its totally fine and completely recommended as it is PC development related. As a DM you want to do this to encourage PC development and as a handicap. If you run long days (I run 6-8 per SR, but not all combat) this stretches out spell slots for the PC, which is good. The PC thought of it...

Goodman Games To Resurrect The Isle of Dread

All of the comments are true. I pulled mine out and saw my pencil markings where I tracked the ship sailing there and almost cried from the memories I had as a kid adventuring there.
