WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

AI can only generate outputs based on what's been fed into it and the parameters dictating those inputs' uses. Tell me, who dictates those inputs and parameters? There isn't going to be a Robocop moment where it overcomes its governing dictums and turns on its OCP masters. Though, I would in...

WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

That's a good point. And if the people who make these decisions were making calls based on their own enlightened long term interest it would be an important safeguard. But, I think we can safely say that the last couple of once-in-a-generation economic crisis have borne that out to be false...

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

I hate to break this to whoever needs to hear it, but, uh, people who go to school for MBAs don't do it to be benevolent or out of a sense of altruism.

WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

We both know they're going to be used to make the sequel movie to the one we're in now called "Exploit 2: The Exploitening" and they'll be used to sell you Wendy's in your sleep.

Shin Megami Tensei RPG Getting English Language Edition

Super hyped! Also stoked that this is based on Nocturne and not Persona. I know these are reprints of older Japanese RPGs, which is probably why. I like Persona games, but the last few have really been robbed of the SMT edge.

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

I'm not arguing that Zwei sucks because it's a retroclone. I'm just giving context on why they were received differently. To your point OSRIC came out in 2006, 5e in 2014. That's alot of time to develop a distinct scene, ethos and identity. Also, thanks to the OGL there isn't alot that D&D...

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

I'll jump in with a serious reply for a change. You have to remember the context of the release. When OSRIC came out, there was no way to get new copies of the game or to (they thought) legally publish adventures for it. By the time old school D&D became available again that ball had gained...

WotC WotC partners with Start Playing to connect players and DMs and form tables.

Or reasonable trepidation. The only reliable indicator of future behavior is past behavior. How's WotC doing by that metric?

Guys, if I defend the indefensible enough times the fortune 500 will love me back.

WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

Yeah, well, people ruin everything, don't they?

WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

It perhaps could. But you know, somehow, I don't think AI funded and controlled by the same forces of capital that have so far destroyed our planet and ruined just about everything else they touch will be the ones to do it.

WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

Serious question: What more demonstrable bad behavior from WotC would it take for you to not to assume good faith on their part? I mean, gestures vaguely at all their actions in the last 18 months in the D&D and MtG spheres

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

You know, as much as the world changes, it's always good to take solace in the things that never change. Like, for example, how fiction in RPG rulebooks will always be terrible and cringe. Gives me the warm and fuzzies.

How important are and RPG's aesthetics to you?

I backed this too since I love JRPGs. But I wonder if the commitment holds throughout the leveling process. Like, for high level characters do they have art of their characters hovering in outer space, shadowed by a galaxy fighting the end-villain who is a god that appeared out of nowhere? I...

How important are and RPG's aesthetics to you?

100%. I can't stand CGI Poser generated art. It makes everything look cheap and terrible. I won't touch all those Cepheus modules that use it. Same thing with New Comet Games. They make some good CoC campaigns but when they switched to terrible CG art I noped outta there. I mean, look at this...

WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

Since politics and business are near indistinguishable at this point I think this piece of data is pertinent. TLDR, they don't care if something is unpopular. Another easy example: How popular do you think Netflix's crackdown on sharing passwords was? I would say near 100% of the userbase didn't...

WotC Hasbro CEO optimistic about AI in D&D and MTG’s future

Good luck with that. They see noise as temporary, they can make alot of return for shareholders with this new avenue. All other efficiencies have already been made. That's also why companies keep pursuing blockchain and crypto stuff as well because there is nothing else left in this blood from...
